Well all, have a good one for you. Hit a major pot hole in my 1996 Aurora. All of a sudden the check engine light came on. Engine seems fine, any inklings?

Maybe a wheel speed sensor or something came loose? Pull the code if it doesn't go away in a couple days.

Try unscrewing the gas cap and putting it back on. Yes, just that simple, always try the easiest first and that is certainly the easiest.

if it's the gas cap the DIC should say "check gas cap" shouldn't it? Other than the SES light is the car running ok?

The car is running fine, it just worries me that something has gone wrong. I know that Auroras have false alarms sometimes but that light is soooo annoying to look at. I will try the gas cap. Could it be an ABS sensor, or would that register with something else? Thanks for your help all.

It could be ABS, but that's only one option since our Auroras are so jammed full of electronic sensors and gadgets. If you are overly worried about (or annoyed by) it, I'd go with omegaic and say get the trouble codes pulled from your system. Many places like Auto Zone have the OBDII coomputers on site and will read your codes for free (the stealership would likely charge you $50-75). Let us know what you find out!

In my experience the wheel speed sensor doesnt throw an SES light, it will activate your TRACTION OFF and ABS lights on the money bar. Its possible that something got jarred a bit in the impact, if the SES continues to come on, I 3rd omegaic and scottydl. Couldnt hurt to get a scan....if the problem continues

Well Guys and Gals, the light went off after I filled the gas tank up again. I was almost empty. I will crack this one up to dumb luck, oh well. Thanks for the suggestions though.
