(The only problem is the more Led's you use the less room you have to re-install your panel, there isn't a whole lot of room on the panel itself for the LEDs and if you do too much the panel will not seat properly on the trunk lid ) , don't think your understanding the "how" taking into consideration, overpowering the the stock lights as said in an earlier post i'm going with 4 9.5" red lights top and bottom each side, and 2 9.5" clear for the center, after a test on the reflective backing, hot glue will do fine to hold the LED'S in place, but to bond the "covers" back into place, and reform as one composition, i'll use a thermosetting polymer like two part epoxy. found this in the bone yard 15 bucks last week (had 2 95's and one 97)sitting there should have grabed all three!! for that price. i'll post pic's of the rest of the job when the light show up in the mailbox. (cut, test fit) (three parts) (left side) (right side)

You went that far you should just use a bunch of 10mm or 5mm LEDs all away across the panel facing outwards. This has been low on my priorities right now though.

so now that i got the LED lights in. i instaled them on the back panel with hot glue, VERY versatile. and strong. 1-red 9.5" top, 1-red 9.5" bottom, and one clear 19" in the middle then i hot glued the panel back in place, i will say this. after the glue set(about 5min) it was like one piece again sealed and water proof. used the glue around the wire hole's and that sealed real nice too! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- well then, the intention was one red top and bottom. a longer clear light in the center acting as a brake light wired into the third (center) stock brake light. after a ruff install, around dusk. the LED lights were just not up to the job, in my opinion!!!! they didn't illuminate whole bar, the red lights looked ok i guess, but the clear light showed up almost orange. and today in the daylight were indiscernible from nothing more then glare depending on the angle of view!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- well one way or another,i was going to get what i wanted. A stock look with all the trimmings ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- and i did!!!! running lights/brake lights and turn signal lights to boot!!!!!! ;D aurorah.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Audio&action=display&thread=20667

i think what would look sick as a little extra modification would be remove the "aurora" lettering and fashion cut outs of the same font but large and have them stuck to the inner side of transparent panel and have the LEDs illuminate the lettering. "aurora" would be spelled out across the entire panel when you brake or just all the time. just an idea i'm doing it when i start making mods after getting my car running to par.

is there a way to hook up the panel so it will not flash with the turn signals?

Yep! If you hook it up as its described here then it won't flash with the turn signals. It will come on with the running lights, thats all.

is there a way to hook up the panel so it will not flash with the turn signals?
the two purple wires (you can splice into just one side) are for the running light and the yellow(left side) green or brown (right side) is for the brake/turn signal

The pictures posted look good from close-up but the pictures from a distance are so-so. What are the specs on the LED strips you all are using? I would think you would want some decently powered LEDs above 50mA. That would help with the dimness issue. I don't see having two 20mA strips helping that much.
You can also do a simple circuit to have running lights and brake lights on the same LED strip. The circuit would consist of two diodes and a current limiting resistor.
Wire from running lights to one diode. Wire from brakes/turn signals to the other diode. After running lights diode is the current limiting resistor. Both going to the + side of the LED strip. Led strip is then grounded to chassis.
Enjoy!

Is there some way to make it so you can set half the bar for turn signals (since the light bar is seperated in the middle).

Very cool write up. I'm planning to buy a 1999 Aurora in 2 months and this will be the mod I do to it. I am not handy like you, so if you or anyone sale the panel with this mod already done to it, I will be more than willing to purchase it.

after a ruff install, around dusk. the LED lights were just not up to the job, in my opinion!!!! they didn't illuminate whole bar, the red lights looked ok i guess. Exactly. I was never satisfied with any combination of strips either. Looks okay close up and from angle but from more than 10-15ft head on...

I liked the look though. I never wanted it to be as bright as the tails, even when on running lights. Just illuminating it a bit looks great to me.
I don't personally sell the panels, it's a little too in-depth for that. If you want to tackle it, though, I would be happy to help answer any questions you might have!

What if you want the panel to match the Tail lights, brightness and color? I feel like that would look better but that's me lol what color taillights? How many? Where should I place them? What if I want to make it into brake lights along with taillights? What should I do? Sorry for all the questions. If I want to do it I want to do it right and what looks the best. I would appreciate any help I can get.

I agree, Sall has by far the most in-depth and best looking setup. I have no qualms handing out kudos where they are due. ;D
If you want to do a simple setup as described in this how-to, it will me more difficult to obtain a setup like Sall's where the brightness will match the tails. This mod is simple in that you just cut the top and insert an LED, you don't need to dig into the panel itself. Quick and easy, took me about 30 minutes plus dry time because I was going slowly.
There is some debate in the thread about how to modify the look. You can play around with a dual brightness LED and some wiring, you can have two separate LED strips (one for running lights, one for brakes) etc, etc. It's all about how you think it will look!
Personally I have a single red LED spanning the entire width of the panel, mounted at the top. It gives me the look that I want and is pretty simple. If I recall correctly some people (Rob did this on his first Aurora I think) bought white LEDs thinking it would increase brightness, and it turned out they would have gone with red given the chance.
Sall will be your man as far as how to modify it to fit your needs, I haven't delved into it enough yet. I plan on modifying my current LED tail panel eventually but it's way down on the list haha.

Thanks for the compliments fellas. What if you want the panel to match the Tail lights, brightness and color? I feel like that would look better but that's me lol what color taillights? How many? If I want to do it I want to do it right and what looks the best. I would appreciate any help I can get. I would honestly say that custom is pretty much the only way to have the tail lamps match the center panel(using LEDs and being functional). Practically impossible to match LED and incandescent color hue and brightness in this situation. You can always stick with using the filament bulbs in the tails and adding filament bulbs to the rear panel. You would achieve match in color due to the same diffuser and lens color, but would show large hot spots as the panel is not deep enough nor does contain reflectors to spread the light evenly. Only a silver coating. This is also a huge increase in power consumption! About 27w/2A per bulb while signalling and braking!

I really like the coustom LEDs across the whole thing like sall's. Is it pricy? Where can I get the parts for it? I really appreciate the help guys!

Sall made the entire panel himself and programmed it all... Not what you'd call easy. There's a few months of LED trial and error in his panel. Definitely doable depending on how fast you learn and how much patience you have, he can shed some more light on it I'm sure.

You can literally get everything at digi-key but the list would probably blow your mind. I shopped around and bought/sold/traded my way to completing the project for very little. I bought 1200 LEDs used a little over half and sold the rest... made money there and the LEDs where then free basically. You can get cheap superflux at radio shack for about $2 a piece lol. You'd have a couple thousand in it then, Depends on how you go about it.
You can send me a PM and discuss further if you are looking to have someone do it for you. Likely not until winter though.

Going to need some pictures of that! But I can say with almost 100% certainty that it did not come from the dealer that way. (unless you physically bought it new, even so I would say it had to have been modified) I think tipsy had self installed 3157's at one point. I tinkered with the idea too but didn't think it'd be bright enough unless you added a bunch and the the voltage draw from that would be outrageous haha

First, how do you post pics? I haven't figured that out.... And ya, somebody drilled 4 light socket holes, then dremeled the square tabs then put in the twist in style sockets, they were all already grounded and wired together even the power wire was ran down lid into trunk, I just re spliced into running lights and it lit right up, as bright as stock taillights and no blown fuses, I was delightfully surprised cause I was gna take it apart to see what was needed to do led's tell me how you can post pics from a mobile phone and I'll post a bunch of detailed ones in case someone else wants to try, it also has a spoiler, idk if it's stock because it has holes that are non factory drilled to access screws but it looks stock as well
