The plastic box connected to airbox, above trans fluid cap. Does it actually do anything? What would happen if I can my car without it? Yeah a big hole on air intake hose...... Today when I finished work on my car I started the engine without the box, will this cause damage to the engine or something dangerous may come out the air intake hose?

It's just a resonator to reduce noise. You're fine running without it, but only if you cap off the hole in the intake hose. The whole point of the filter is to keep stuff out so the MAF screen doesn't have to filter it... stuff can easily get in through that opening the resonator leaves if you don't plug it up.

I think I am going to block off my resonator in the Rora. I noticed that my resonator was all cracked. I did it on the Duramax too using a test plug...

Haha sorry if that came across as mean. ;D I'm running without mine right now, I just capped it off with a PVC pipe end.

That looks like a good piece to use, good thinking! Where did you get it?

I bought one similar to that for the truck at Lowes Home Improvement. These test plugs can be found in stores with plumbing sections or at least I would imagine. But definitely Lowes and Home Depot.
I did post up the pictures that I had but they needed to be resized for the site. They were huge and you would have to scroll a mile to the right to view them so I took them off. I am too lazy to resize my already uploaded pictures.

The 2" fits perfectly as I just installed it about 10 minutes ago... I bought my second when from Lowes and it is found where the pvc fittings are (like elbows, 90's and caps ect. I noticed that they had 2" and 3". I through my resonator away as it was cracked.
Just noticed that you are from NC. I am around the Raleigh area...

It will look like this from Lowes. i166.photobucket.com/albums/u103/dietz4ibanez/DSC03912.jpg Just ask a employee that you are looking for a plumbing test plug with a wingnut on top. I will post a picture soon of it installed...

Here is a look at the Resonator Delete using a Test Plug.

Does removing the resonator make the air intake noise noticeably louder?

I haven't really noticed anything but since I installed it I have done nothing but drive with the windows down or had the music up loud. I doubt that you would notice much of a difference. I would expect better airflow but more than likely not much of a difference in fuel mileage in performance. But every little bit helps.
I am just happy that I got rid of something useless.

It seems to pull a little louder to me but it's probably more imagination than fact haha. I can confirm that if it IS louder that it's not by very much.

It might help if I had a clean air filter... lol
Thinking about getting a k&n drop in.

the resonator delete won't add any noticeable power but it does increase the intake noise a bit. i believe without it, the intake air path is changed and most likely "sped up"
a Gatorade lid is also the perfect size. if you use a bit of silicone you can plug it off good that way too. mine is plugged off with bottom of a pyrex cup.

What do you all think about asking the admin to changing.the title to "resonator delete"? I know its not my thread. Just thought I would ask.

Works for me, title changed. I'll stick it in the performance sticky too for reference.
Turns out there is one already haha... well now we have two! This one is a good alternative to the idea in the other thread anyway.

No prob! Thanks for the info.
I'll probably do this eventually but I currently am using the PVC cap like I explained earlier in the thread. I drilled out a hole and mounted the temp sensor in there so that I wasn't cutting apart my intake... I don't really want to find another place to put it b/c this seems to be working alright. I know the air temp sensor was in the top of the airbox before... would it be alright to mount it in direct airflow like in the side of the intake? That's my only alternative, I think.

Now you've got me wondering and maybe I misunderstood but are you talking about a sensor in the radiator or the the sensor that's plugged into the air box where the air filter is?

The one that plugs into the airbox. Since I have a CAI I had to relocate the sensor.
