Well, we had a tornado dropping golf ball sized hail here in Centerville, OH about a week or so ago, and I just got back from the local body shop with the damage estimate. Overall I was extremely lucky and only got 20-30 smallish dents spread all over the car thanks to the GIANT oak tree that towers over our driveway shielding our vehicles. Of course the repair bill is still gonna be $2600 to get them all out, and that doesn't include the sections right above the door and below the roof where the hail literally came down and scrapped the paint off of the body. I'll probably have to pay for those repairs out of pocket since there aren't any dents to accompany the paint scratches and the body shop guy claimed the insurance wouldn't believe they were hail damage without dents. Overall I just have to say it could be worse, and thank god for full coverage insurance! Pics below... Those white streaks across the picture? Yep, that's the hail! I went outside as soon as it cleared up, and this is how big the hail was after a few minutes of melting! Unfortunately there was no room in the garage which is taken up by tools and my dad's Cutlass, so all three of the other cars had to stay outside in the storm.

This was the small stuff. Just about a mile away they had hail right between the size of a golf ball and a baseball. I know a couple of people who have $10,000+ repair bills for their nearly new cars. The good news is that my insurance company has agreed to cover almost all of the damage except of course those wonderful paint scrapes. Those will have to be fixed with all the other little scrapes left by the previous owner... Don't worry nelson I really did need to trim them . I work with computers a good bit, and its much easier to pick up all those little screws when you've got somewhat longer nails.

any acts of GOD are not usually covered, that includes tornadoes, hail, floods, earthquakes, fires, etc. etc.
i suggest going to a parts store and buying one or two or those large suction cups for pulling dents and see what you can do yourself. you can't make it any worse right. then since your car is black or other dark color, you can let it sit in full sun on a very hot day and take dry ice and put the chunks on the dents. let them melt and watch the dents pop themselves out! just wear gloves. honestly that's what most paintless dent repair shops use. the quick contraction of the metal fixes itself.

Your story and pics make me marvel all the more at how lucky I was that my Aurora emerged completely unscathed by the hail that accompanied the F3 tornado that hit my hometown of Goderich, Ontario on August 21st. My 'Rora was parked outside in the driveway with no tree to shield it from the hail that came down -- fortunately even though most of the hailstones were pretty large, they were realtively round, not the jagged stuff you got.
