Anything to help. I hope it works out for you! Mine didn't work right away the first time I cleaned it, but after I cycled through the headlight on/off a few times it started working. If it doesn't help, report back and we'll try to troubleshoot from there.

Hey man, I didnt have a chance to try it this weekend. Honestly im not very savy when it comes to working on cars. I might take it to the people that installed my audio system and see if its something they can take care of.

Hardest part here was finding a tool to get the steering column cover off ... I ended up making my own, welding a socket onto an old screwdriver handle, then grinding the socket skinny so it'd fit in the holes ...
Once you DO get it working, keep it that way by exercising the lights on/off switch every now and then. I figure the reason my lights went wonky is I didn't even KNOW I had an on/off switch to exercise.
Yeah, I know ... RTFM ... <G>

It was my turn today. I used the KISS method and just pulled back the rubber boot and did it that way. It worked.

My turn - AGAIN!! Fix only lasted since end of May and the flash is back. Time to get ambitious and tear it apart again. I wish I could see the contacts through the rubber boot as some say but that ain't happenin' for me. Believe I will try spraying in there anyway and maybe get a short reprieve from disassembly.

Now after about 1.5 hours to get her apart, I can see why it is "no see the contacts" without dis-assembly. You just cannot get at the contacts until the steering wheel shroud is removed and that is the last step of dis-assembly. It did seem easier the second time but still an uncomfortable routine. Last time I put on dielectric grease and it did look a bit gunky when I got it exposed today.
Any opinion on using the dielectric grease or just leave it alone?
I'm still letting it dry thoroughly before I reconnect battery and see the result so I have time to decide about the grease.
Question: Where in the world (exactly) is the LCM (Light Control Module)? Is that what buzzes when the symptom occurs? Lots of wiring harnesses down there but I don't know what I am looking for if I have to get inside it and do work there.
Hoping for an answer about these questions.
Harry
I will pass on the qustions about dielectric grease and the LCM module. I got it all done and found an error code on the digital display with "air bag problem" I broke the air bag connector apart and shot it with contact cleaner, and glory be, that took care of the error code. Now all is good amd there is no longer a flashing lights problem. Every time I take this beast apart I find a new problem but for now all is fixed and all is well.

I just want to describe my problem and see if you guys think following this guide will fix it. For starters, i have a 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora. I just had the Alternator changed on it about 4 weeks ago. Last Thursday (9-3-15) I drove my car through the carwash. Shortly after i started hearing a very random clicking sound coming from the console which sounded to be left of the steering wheel about right where the foglight button is. When this clicking happens my headlights flash with the clicks. From 9-5-15 through 9-8-15 the problem stopped. However yesterday evening it rained in the afternoon while my car was sitting outside from work. When i got in my car to go home it was clicking again like crazy. Get home and turn the car off and it still clicking like crazy and making my headlights flash off and on very sporadically. Im wondering if when it rains some water is getting in from where my hood meets my windshield and is rolling down the firewall and getting on a fuse or a relay. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE! Im already having to unhook my negative terminal off my battery every time im not driving it so it doesnt drain my battery. I can record a video of the clicking sound from in the console if that will help diagnose my problem. Yeah this was me back in September haha. I finally got the guts to try this myself and the pics and descriptions were SPOT ON! I had a guy tell me the whole steering column would have to be replaced. I spent my lunch break doing this fix at work behind our computer repair shop. Trust me guys, i know NOTHING about fixing cars. If i can do this and you have the same problem follow this guide and it will most like fix your problem. Im sooooo happy i dont have to disconnect my battery every single time im not driving now. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I know this is an old thread but the thing that I love about this site is that it seems that no matter what your Aurora's ailment someone else has experienced it as well and came up with a fix.
Yesterday at work someone came to my office and asked me if I knew there was something screwy going on with my lights. I went out to check and sure enough they were flashing on and off very sporadically. since it was the end of the day I immediately jumped on here and after a short search I found this thread.
I stopped by the local O'Rielly's and picked up a can of contact cleaner and headed home to change cloths and get to work. Everything came apart pretty easy and I got right down to it. At first I wondered if spraying the little holes was really doing any good but I kept at it. The more times I did it the more the fluid flowed freely from the to smaller holes to the left of the 5. After about 8 or 9 spray/blow routines I sprayed cleaner back through the larger of the two small holes to the left and cleaner shot out of 4 out of 5 of the 5 holes described in the original post. I figured this was a good thing and repeated the whole process a few more times.
I figured everything was probably pretty saturated even though I blew everything out really good so I let it sit for about an hour before re-connecting the battery. After I got battery hooked back up and got the airbag fuse back in all is well so far. It was after dark at that point so I didn't put everything else back together right away plus I wanted to wait to make sure the issue didn't come back today when it warms up but so far so good.
Thanks for a great thread and a great site. I have had my '99 Aurora for about a year and a half now and I sure am enjoying it, little quirks and all.
