I'd like to.
Question - I know the meet is on the 23rd, but considering it's a 16-ish hour drive, would there be any objectives to showing up on Friday? Not sure if there's anywhere to stay, however.

I drove up on Friday when I went a couple years ago. I left Kansas on Friday morningish and arrived in the afternoon. I stayed at Don's house, he's got an even bigger place now! I'll probably stay at Zach's place this year but who knows. I know that Zach is cool with people staying over at his place; It may just be a sleeping bag on the floor (or air mattress) but I'm sure there will be somewhere to stay. If not we can all stuff into one hotel room or something haha. No worries, man! You've gotta come!
I don't think there's any other way to do it; if you don't plan on staying overnight then you'll arrive tired with bugs plastered all over your bumper, not ready for the meet! haha. Don and I got to the pavilion early and shined our cars right before the meet on Saturday morning after a good night's sleep and some authentic Chicago pizza. It was a fun little vacation! We did some mods to his car on Saturday night, that was fun too. They went and hung out at Andy's last year tho, I think, which also sounds fun.
The moral of the story is that you've gotta come. Would you leave really early friday morning and plan on getting there late friday? I don't think it would do much good for us to meet up, It would add a couple hours to your drive if you wanted to meet up with me. Since (hopefully) you texas kids will be coming up together I think that I would meet Lathan around here, head up to Iowa to meet groomlakestead (if he can still come!) and then go to the meet that way. I can go over through Missouri or up through Iowa, it's about a three minute difference either way. Go figure!

Alright! I'll definitely collaborate beforehand on if I can go or not.
I've never driven that far on my own on one consecutive drive, haha.. (Only 20 years old)
Suppose I've got quite the nice car to make that drive in =)

I'm excited to go, It should be a fun vacation. It'll be interesting though; if I've got a full time job then I'll have to leave late friday and drive through the night probably, unless I can get a half day off work or something. I guess we'll see!

It's definitely under consideration though!! If I go wireless I'd be willing 2 meet up so we could caravan!!

I'm in the same boat - I've been on quite a few (with parents/friends) but never been the one driving by myself! Also, sounds like a plan. If it's not the Illinois meet I go to, it'll be the MO meet (October/November time I think). However, for current times sake, I'm hoping I can make it to this. Depends on the money situation, though..

The main thing on long trips alone is staying alert. If you get tired or drowsy, stop and take a break. As far as gas prices, use GasBuddy.com and plan your stops. No sense paying more than you have to. www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx

Missouri is usually the first week of October, but it may be earlier depending on a few factors. The main one is that my wedding day is October 13th... I don't know if I can leave for a whole weekend only two weeks before the wedding haha.
But Illinois! You have to come!

Thanks 4 all the advice oldwino and oldsnut!! I definitely will be getting lots of rest!! A very close friend of mine passed away from a car crash, he fell asleep at the wheel so I will definitely be taking brakes as needed!!!

Sweet! After being Facebook friends for years I'll finally be able to meet the famous Javi and his Enclave! I may just have to bring the Acadia Denali and tow the Aurora behind it so we can have our own little photoshoot. ;D

My floor is open! But I do not offer free wi-fi OR continental breakfast. Absolutely not! Oh, and there is a 5 dollar fee, per person, to park your hind quarters in my subdivision. That is non negotiable unless you own an aurora. If you own an Aurora, you get free parking of hind quarters.
Guys, its 4 A.M. and I know that everything I just said confused me, so I know it confused you.
YOU CAN ALL CRASH ON MY FLOOR/COUCH. I would offer my bed. But I sleep side ways.

That's Zach's thing, not mine. ;D Remember that one meet? With the sleeping bag? And the tent....it was so cold that night! Haha not to steer the meat off track or anything....BUT, Mr. Reynolds, you are right. You may get a bed! I think I FINALLY found the new furniture set I just can't live without. It comes with a bed, toilet, remote control leash, fridge, and a whistle. It does everything your wife won't, including but not limited too....taking my crap. ;D

Oh... I'm sorry. I didn't realize the party pooper had arrived. Lets get it together guys. We don't wont to offend Mr. poo-poo head! ;D Haha, Drivel, in the IL meet thread is absolutely guaranteed. It's the only thread that has basically functioned on drivel since its first inception in 2008. I pride myself as being the leader of said drivel. People have tried to match my canny abilities, but most fall short. Besides, by this point in time I think people come just to eat Kays blue-berry stomach ache, and meet me. I'm a bit of a big deal....

That's right, a legend in his own mind.
Kay would argue that drivel part.
All this drivel means it will be a great meet.
