Scotty, I did my brakes a couple of weeks ago and there's no torx neither hex bits required on the 99 calipers. They're regular bolts(I believe 15mm). My calipers look different than the ones in the pic...I guess that was part of the brake upgrade also.

I didn't have a C-clamp so I used a clamp like the one in the pic below, I think it's called a bar clamp. Takes a bit more strength then a C-clamp to get the piston in, but it worked and saved me the cost of a giant C-clamp. ;D By the way, whatever clamp is used needs to have an opening of at least 6", otherwise it won't fit over the caliper.

Hey thanks everyone, I'll pick up what I need and tackle the job this weekend. I will probably do the fronts first, and save the rears for another weekend or two from now. Also as far as the C-clamp/pistol reset tools go, check your local parts store for a Borrow-a-Tool program. Both Auto Zone and Advance Auto do this in my area, and AA has a NICE reset tool with various interchangeable ends for any size piston you can imagine... they charge you a deposit for the tool, you can keep it for 14-30 days depending on what it is, then return it for your full deposit back (making it free to use). Great program that I've used for compression testers and other expensive tools that I've needed but don't need to own.

I knew that Advanced Auto had the Borrow-a-Tool program, so I tried to borrow a torque wrench and it was a no go, it was one of the only tools they didn't have. Of course, it might be different at another location.

what brand of rotors and pads did you use? I got my pads and rotors from raceshopper.com. I bought Performance Friction carbon/metallic pads with Signature Series rotors. It's been about 8 months since I put the pads and rotors on and there working great. No squeaking from the pads and no warping from the rotors.

I did this Saturday. First side was a total pain, but the other side went very quickly since I had figured out what I was doing wrong. I would like to add something to this write up (which is great BTW). My 01 you cannot use a c-clamp to set the piston. The piston reset tool is not needed either. First, bolt the caliper back on without the pads but don't need to tighten it, just a few turns to hold it in place. Then I used a hammer and a flat screwdriver to break it loose, then a pair of long nose vice grips made it easy to turn it. Also, make sure the little V is perpendicular to the pads so the little rivet or whatever will slide into the V.

Hi 95rora, Your brake writeup, here: aurorah.proboards.com/thread/2447 no longer has pictures. The image box says this: "Sorry. This person has moved or deleted the image ... Photobucket Is there any way you can restore the pictures?

Photobucket Is there any way you can restore the pictures? 95rora's profile shows that they last logged in [or is it posted?] ...12 years ago. So, I would not count on a reply. I don't know if the Moderators might be able to help, with pictures? I will have to look around. I used the how-to to do the brake upgrade to my '98. I printed all or most of the guide to PDF, for ease of use/reading, on my smartphone. We'd have to find a way to share the file(s), but it would be a last-resort method to get you the right pictures. The big down-side to the PDFs is that it locked the pictures into a "managable size," so you don't have the level of detail & zoom potential that you might have, in the originals. I also pretty much ignored the rear brakes, as common knowledge was that there was little to no value to the change. ...Also, I have not viewed any of the videos, but Youtube seems to have become much more comprehensive for DIY mechanical work: Aurora brake job. If it's not helpful, there are a couple of Cadillac models & maybe the Buick Lucerne, that should be a very similar procedure. If none of the above is helpful, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

If it's not helpful, there are a couple of Cadillac models & maybe the Buick Lucerne, that should be a very similar procedure. Yes I too was going to suggest this, these models share the same brake calipers as the Aurora BUICK LESABRE 2000-2005 BUICK PARK AVENUE 1997-2005 BUICK RIVIERA 1997-1999 CADILLAC DEVILLE 1997-2005 CADILLAC ELDORADO 1997-2002 CADILLAC SEVILLE 1997-2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA 2000-2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO 2000-2005 OLDSMOBILE AURORA 1997-2003 OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE 1998-1999 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE 2000-2005 so it stands to reason any video showing a brake job on one of them would be very similar to the brake job for an Aurora. But really, the Aurora's brakes are very standard/straight forward. So most any brake job write up or video is going to be very similar. The only catch would be needing the caliper tool to compress the pistons of the rear caliper. That's available for rental at any local Auto parts store. Unfortunately any pictures that were hosted on photobucket are removed or stuck behind a paywall, this has caused a lot of problems with our older stickies on this forum.
