ya sure it's a while off yet, but i have already had people asking me when it is, so i got in touch with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. Mark your calendars guys --- Saturday, October 6th is the big day! perhaps you working people will get Columbus day off, which is that Monday, the 8th.
of course camping, bonfires, etc. etc. is encouraged out here at my place. Will we go "run em"? i have no idea, lol, last year everyone was broke, lost or broke down, so we didn't go to the track. I have a wicked cross bow, we can shoot some archery in my yard, i'm setting up 3D targets soon. maybe it won't be so dang cold this time around, lol, 10 people stretched out on my living room floor!

Hey man Randy and I had talked about maybe moving it earlier this year? Make it more like the first meet; hanging out by the campfire, working on cars, taking a ton of pictures and going on a cruise, etc. The 6th is a week before my wedding and I definitely can't make that one. I was hoping we could bump it a couple weeks earlier? It would definitely be warmer if we moved it into September!
I'll have to give you and Randy a call to see what you guys think. If you want to hit up the auto show that's great but I'd love to be able to make it and take pictures with you guys; it would be sweet to make it to five in a row!
What do you think?

Not the meet Dan. It's the car show that is held in Aurora, MO.

well that's too bad you can't make it Collins. But; you want to change the meet date, so to hang out and do what? drive together in a "cruise" , "work on cars together" , maybe hang out in warmer weather? remember how hot it got last time? it was only cold that one night. That's just Missouri weather for ya! a few weeks either way won't change that. I realize how bad you want to be a part of it, but you're getting married! That's so much more important, exciting, etc.
Call me crazy, but i think what makes this an exciting meet is the fact that it's a REAL car show, with hundreds of spectators and other cars. they have live music, food, actual awards & even a parade. Grant it, we missed the parade last year, but i don't see how taking all of that away will make it better. The first meets were before we knew about the aurora show. A cruise is fine but nothing is stopping us from doing that out here & there's already plenty of room to work on our cars too.
All the club meets up to this one more recently, consisted of gathering at a roadside park or a field and hanging out. That's all that the other meets consist of. I just see a lot of stuff like being in the newspaper, etc. that makes the meet out here unique amongst our meets. I'm sorry you're gonna miss it. Maybe have 2 meets then? LOL...

I will have to sit this one out. With Collins's wedding later in october, it just would not be financially possible for me to take multiple days in one month off. Lance, you just wanna go to the car show so you can win an award. lol

ha ha zach, my car is falling apart more and more each year. i guess my bottom line thoughts on moving the meet date up to accommodate 1,2 or 3 of ya seems (selfish?) as then, everyone else, (maybe a newbie) will miss the great events. in other words, change the date & lose all the activities....no hot dog stands, no music, no other cars, no other people, no newspaper picture, no trophies, no parade, no car show! then there's the optional race track too. if you guys want to create another meet then that's cool, but we should surely keep this one too.

My thoughts:
Randy started the meet just a year before I started showing up, but it started out being just about the cars. The first year I was there we just hung at his house, took pictures of the Auroras, and I left the next morning. The second year was even better with the cruise to the bridge/gas station and pictures there. The car show was a great addition too and I enjoy it, but I don't think its as much about the Auroras anymore.
This past year we spent so much time at the auto show that we barely had time to shoot photos at the gas station, which is what I come for every year. I enjoy the meet because we get to chill and BS around the campfire, talk about cars (and other stuff too) and take pictures all day. We tried to fit too much in last year, I think. Going to the show, the bridge, and to Randy's was too much, I think.
The car show, while exciting, is still a local car show. I don't come to see the cars that are there, we have plenty of that in Kansas City with the Goodguys carshows at the speedway and whatnot. I come for the Auroras! We didn't even go to the parade last year anyway, and the picture in the paper was just a small column of the local paper. Not to slight the show, it's still fun, It just doesn't feel like it's about the Auroras anymore. It's about going to get some award in a small carshow. (Heck you can still go, it's close to your house!)
I think it would be dumb to make two meets, I don't really want to do that. There's no sense in making it a competition between the two, I'm not naive enough to think that it would be a good idea. I do think, though, that it was a really fun meet the first couple years where we went to the track and took pictures and stuff, I personally don't enjoy sitting at the carshow all day and scaring people off nearly as much. ;D
I have another one of those carbon squares saved up that I was going to modify into the Aurora logo; if we end up moving the meet and skipping the show I'll cut that one up for you, Lance. I'll buy you a frame and you can create whatever award/plaque/memorabilia/etc that you wish with it. ;D It was never about the better weather; I just want to be able to hang out with you and Randy (the "Original crew" as Zach called it lol) and take pictures and stuff again this year especially when you can still make it to the show a couple weeks later. I'm not asking to move the location or anything, your house was a great place for it last year. Just asking if we could bring the itinerary back to more of what it was like the first couple times we met up is all!

hey i am totally down with changing the date to a couple weeks earlier. just hanging out with you guys would be great enough for me. Just hang out, take pics, cruise, work on cars for the night sounds like a good plan. i will probably be there, no matter what we come up with.

Yeah, we are going to move the date, we need to figure out exactly when. The meetings are about hanging out with friends and Auroraing, the car show has been a great bonus, but a break from it will be nice.

well its all good, you can do what you want. i know at least 2 other members will still be coming to the one here though. guess we'll get that best club represented w/o u guys. by the way Randy - keeper of the award, lol, we's a gunna want dat trofee to display at the show. that sounds cool Collins with the thing you made. i'm secretly (no longer secret) working on a 2 x 3 foot sign / poster / display which will look great out in front of our row of cars. just some basic aurora facts, etc. my gf, the art professor & i are collaborating on it.
also if you recall, it wasn't so much a lack of time but rather we were hung up half the time waiting on gator. i can understand not wanting to hang out at a show all day, but no one or nothing is taking picture time, camp fire stories, etc. out of the equation.
nice Randy, "keeping ACNA honest 1 4.6 at a time"

Alright sounds good, then I guess we'll have a thread for the autofest and a thread for the 2012 MO meet? We'll also have to figure that one out, I assume you'll be at that one as well? It wouldn't be the same without white lightning!
