Hello everyone!
I've been having window problems lately so today I decided to find out why my driver's side window gets stuck going down and my rear windows don't go down at all.
I took off the driver's side front and rear door panels to get a look at things and I also looked under the rear seat at the fuse boxes there. All the fuses looked good and the rear windows seemed to be an electrical problem while the driver's side front seemed to be a motor. I fixed the rear windows after finding the wires passing through the door driver's side door jam to be cut and used a guide here to fix that mess.
I ended up having to get a jump from my brother near the end of the repairs because I took a long lunch break and left everything on.
Anyways, after putting everything back together I was driving and suddenly realized that my gauges were not moving and the console information center with the temps and "fuel remaining, etc." were dead. Additionally when the car is off the hazards light blinks on the dash although the lights don't actually blink on the exterior. Other things on the dash are working like back lights, and warning lights.
It is a 97 Olds Aurora and now I am wondering where I might have messed something up to cause this problem and the steps I can take to fix it. I'd be glad to provide any additional information to help find a solution.
Thanks!

Check the 'IP 1 &2' fuses under the rear seat. That should get you your cluster/DIC back. As for hazard flashing when vehicle is off, not too sure. Cycle the hazard switch on and off a few times see if it goes away.

did you replace a flasher while you were in there? are any wires in the door jam the same color, and could have been crossed? did you check the fuses in the front door jam? sound a little like what was going on with my car.

Anyways... question for you guys. Do the gauges work at all and do you have gauge lights?

I haven't had a chance to recheck my fuses yet but the guage backlights are all working but the gauges don't move. I also lost the use of my keyless entry remote and the lock button on the interior isn't working but the unlock is. >_<
I think I'll just work backwards tonight and go back over everything I did.
Edit: Body Control Module maybe?

Ok, checked fuses and IP 2 was blown. Tried to put in another and it blew instantly.
I disconnected all the wires I repaired in the door jam (about 5) and put in another fuse and it worked. It seemed to restore everything but my lock button (the AC came on full blast when I hit lock but maybe that was some weird coincidence and another thing all together) and my remote entry remote wasn't working (reset I assume).
I had to go do something else so foolishly I just put all the loose wires back inside the door boot and the fuse blew again. I assume that this means that upon connection one of the wires I repaired is creating a short? Is there an easy way to figure out which wire it is among the 5?

Right... okay. So, I was correct in that one or both of the IP fuses were blown. Let me pull up the schematic for IP2 circuit and see what else is on it that may have been crossed in the door jamb. One issue at a time... together we will find a solution.
EDIT: Are you sure it is IP2 blowing and nor IP1. I ask because according to schematics Instrument Cluster, Side View Mirror Switch, LH Seat/Lock Switch, RH Seat/Lock Switch, LH Seat Switch, Remote Indicator Bank, RFA Module(This is why keyless entry is not working), Heater and AC Control, Heater and AC Programmer,Data Link Connector(OBDII Plug). The function in bold are functions not working. Has to be IP1 blowing and not 2.
If you just stuck the wires back in of course there be a short if they touch ground. Take your time one by one and match up the wires. Checking each time to see if the fuse blows again.

Yeah, it was just IP 2. The IP 1 fuse was good.

I updated my last post, but you already stated yes it was IP2 and not IP1. My suggestion still stands though. One at a time.

I'm sorry I looked again and you were correct it was IP1. I should be able to work on the wiring tomorrow and see what's up.

I went back and redid all of the broken wires. I also found two wires that were bunched back in the rubber boot that I hadn't seen before. After carefully repairing all of the wires and then replacing the blown fuses, everything now seems to be working correctly.
Thank you for all of your help!

1997 4.0 autobahn
I have problems with my Driver Information Center only. I'm a newbie with this car and hardly a mechanic but I can fix things and I understand if I know where to start, I'm new to the club and form also and have looked extensivly for anything on the subject, can't find nota. The problem is my DIC is blank, not working, wont respond ect. Fuses IP 1 and IP 2 are fine I've read the owners manual and searched the internet to no avail. I know how to work the thing : ) but have never used it. So far all I got is; A-it crapped out OR B-whatever wires power it up are loose or damaged. if I'm over looking something or need to gather more information let me know, thank you.

Obviously you pressed a button and turned it on, so I will rule that out haha, yep, I'm thinking that you probably have a broken or corroded connection to the DIC thats causing it either not to get power or have a ground

I would like to get it working, it hasn't been on in who knows how long. Would the best way to trouble shot this be to remove the dash and see if there is an obvious wire disconnection and work my way on?

No gauges or no gauge lighting?

The gauges and lights work fine (besides gas). Its just the Driver Information Center above my radio. I've tried turning on the DIC like the manual says, I've checked fuses IP 1 and 2 and it shows no sign of life.

I have two auroras ! If your driver side gas, temp and mph gauge lights go out along with your radio and headlights at random times it's most likely because of the fuse box on the driver side. Not necessarily a fuse sometimes but mine was the whole fuse box wire in general. Its wire can sometimes be loose or even have a cut causing it to touch metal, spark , shut it all down at random times.

Could you please re-write your sentences with proper punctuation and grammar? Not trying to be mean or a stickler for that stuff, it's just that it is very hard to understand what you wrote.
