My friend has a 2007 altima 2.5 4 cylinder and only saw my car once or twice and doesn't believe it has a v8 so he said he wanted to race..now I know Nissan makes some pretty quick engines even though they're so small...could I take him in my 98 or no? I'd feel like an idiot if I couldn't

Lol, I hate to say it, but it depends if it's an automatic or a stick. As much as I hate to say it, if he has a 5spd, he'll probably beat you. A CVT, and it'll be pretty close... Don't expect to wipe the floor with him - not gonna happen. Hate to burst that bubble, but it's how it is

HOWEVER, and I add this last part... if you keep up the race (much past 100+ MPH) you should begin to pull on him

Ask to race 1mile. Ha!
Might want to just show him the V8 and leave it at that.

its an automatic, has triptonic but he doesn't know how to use it. I know he'd have me from a dead stop because our cars have no low end torque, but what about from a 20 or 30 mph roll?

From a 30mph roll, if you keep it in first, there's no doubt in my mind that you'd pull ahead.
That being said, be warned, the CVT will keep him at high revs..

ASSUMING you are doing this on a closed track, it should be close. I have driven an 04 Altima with the 2.5. Those things love to rev. I have also driven the 3.5 altima, that thing is just incredible. An Aurora wouldn't stand a chance against a 3.5 altima.
Since you said he had triptronic, I assume it is a 4 or 5 speed automatic. I don't think Nissan had put the technology in the altima that allowed the CVT to "mock" an Automatic. Atleast not till 2010+
Nissan knows how to make a small engine, work very hard, and very quick. But I think that anything above in town, speeds, you should have the car easily. On a track, of course.

If you launch perfect with no wheel spin, the altima will still etch you out. DON"T RACE HIM LOL. Those 2.5 Altima's are mid 15 second cars. Most stock Aurora's are 16 second cars.

well..it happened. I raced him rolling from 40 mph on a longggg straight road, 3 horn honks and I dropped her into 2nd and immediately had the lead, he stayed right on my ass but never got ahead of me, that is until I got up to 110 and my governor kicked in and he passed . HOW DO I REMOVE A GOVERNOR

Told you that you'd stay ahead at that speed. At higher speeds you'd continue to pull ahead. No way to remove the governor on a non-bahn, at least I don't think so... Nice job, but don't race from a standstill! lol. Keep it at this, and hope he never mods his car because if he does you don't stand a chance

It's PCM controlled. A tune can(supposedly) remove the speed limiter on the non-autobahn.

wish it was easier to remove :/

wish it was easier to remove :/ Good thing is our trannies are cheap to buy used. U could always swap trannies with an autobahn and a pcm. Really cheap upgrade if you could do the work on your own

Sall help me out. Is it as simple as swapping trannies and pcm??

Right, but that's gonna be more expensive than a tune and you could do other stuff with a tune.

Aurorabrain used to swap the differential and make the pcm an autobahn if I remember right. The point is you won lol once your governor kicks in that's all u can do and the race ends IMO

Nissan sure does make some awesome engines... The VQ35, for example, is one heck of a gem. And it sounds freakin awesome, too! Just be glad he doesn't have a V6 lol

Agree with Wireless on this one, that Altima SE or SE-R with the V6 was for a short time the fastest FWD production vehicle, be glad it wasn't one of those.

"jap crap" cars lol WTF xD Nissan makes great cars. Infiniti's, etc. Not a Toyota fan, but I love Lexus (weird, I know). Different type of car, different type of style

Sad but true that, thanks mainly to corporate greed, most American cars are not as reliable as most "jap crap."

Nissan makes great engines. I miss my 97 Q45 that thing had tons of torque on it and i believe it would beat our auroras. Governor was set to 130.

I'm assuming the differential is the difference between the 3.48 ratio and the 3.71 autobahn ratio. At least that would make sense. If I remember right he swapped out the differeial and flashed the PCM

I'm surprised he was able to stay with you on the highway. That 2.5 liter makes 175 horsepower while the 4.0 makes 250. I guess its the weight difference. I took that rating off of wikipedia which also said the altima with the 2.5 had a 0-60 time of 8.6 seconds.... doesn't sound that quick. Maybe I would have to drive one to know.

They're slow 0-60 because they use a CVT transmission, and it takes a while for the RPM's to get up high on 'em.
However, once they get up there & stay, that engine is nice and happy to cruise along.
In my Aurora, I was beaten by a lightly modded Mazda3. He started pulling on me around 100... That pissed me off. lol

I'm the same way. From about 2007-2009, my 3 vehicles were the '99 Aurora, '69 Pontiac, and '94 Thor RV. All big American V8 engines!

I raced an Acura Tsx or Rsx last night, not quite sure what it was and I beat him by about 1 car length IF that. it was so close. we got to the light and he rolled his window down and said "what the f*ck is in that thing?!" I said "just a stock v8" he said "what kind of car is it?" I said "oldsmobile aurora" he said "dam man that thing is pretty quick, you would never expect it" and the light turned green, we both waved at each other and drove our separate ways.....sleepers win again
