I've done multiple searches on this subject, but have yet to find anything. I'm just wondering if it's possible/feasible to turbo a 3.5. I'm assuming there will most likely have to be custom parts fabricated [downpipe, wastegate, etc]. Just wondering is it's been done before, or if anyone has any input on the subject. If it's relatively feasible, I might go ahead and do it.
Thanks for reading!

Nothing is impossible! It would definitely require a custom turbo kit. I would be wary of the motor being able to handle the boost though, these engines weren't made for it. Doesn't mean it couldn't take it, but they just weren't designed with boost in mind.

I wonder if it would be better suited for the 4.0? Or if NA is just the way to stay... Hmmm decisions, decisions... If it makes a difference, and this is going to sound INCREDIBLY lame, but I really only want a turbo mostly for the sound.

They have blow off valve emulators on eBay if you wish, you stick them in your exhaust. Lol
If you want it for the sound I would stick with NA haha. It would require a lot of cash, I know what we charge for one-off turbo kits (we did one for a Typhoon and another for a Trailblazer SS) and it just wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

$$$$$ure it can be done. ;D Hahaha. I guess with enough money, anything is possible. Oh well. I'll probably just put this project in the "When I Become A Billionaire" folder... I just love the idea of sleepers so much. Maybe there's a way to supercharge it? I loved the SC in my Regal. Hmm... Anyway, thanks for the replies everyone!

The issue will be the tuning it! Well, that might be changing soon.
The issue with a 4.0 (well, potential issue) is that they already have a pretty high compression ratio... in addition to the lack of.. well.. any aftermarket parts lol

Spark of genius/insanity just hit me, and I have a wallet full of money. I have a project underway at the moment for this car, but 2 things are holding me back [and probably more I'm not thinking of at the moment] 1. TUNING. How would I go about doing that? As far as I know, it's pretty much impossible to tune a Northstar to handle boost, much less a Shortstar. 2. Injectors. Should I upgrade?

If your putting more air in your going to need more fuel. So yes upgrading injectors is a must

You'll need injectors. Some cars have large enough injectors to handle it but I'm sure the Aurora would need an upgrade.
Mad tuner is currently tuning a 4.6 for Randy T via mail order, and is going to Dyno a 97 4.0 and tune it on site for a local member (RCA or Aura) but no 3.5 and not with boost haha. They have their own software they have developed to tune northstars, but I don't know if that includes the shortstar. It wouldn't be impossible to tune a 3.5 for boost, but definitely difficult and would require on-site tuning most likely. Mad tuner is in Illinois.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies. I ordered a heap of parts so I can get this project started.
Think I could go to a local dyno and have them tune it? I like to think I know a lot about cars, but tuning is something I'm 100% ignorant about. Does the 3.5 require some special tuning software?

All cars require software to tune. HP tuners, SCT, etc. there are a bunch of options out there... Provided your car is supported. Anyone can dyno your car and pull wideband numbers but you have to have software to tune it. As far as I know mad tuner has developed the only software that can tune an Aurora and they only just recently went public with it.
You could dyno the car and send them wideband data and they can tune it in Illinois and send you the PCM back to give it another try where you would go dyno it again, send data back, etc. mail order tunes take a while as there is a lot of down time and cost associated there.
