madtuner What are the gains of your tune vs the OEM specs on the second gen? I am definitely interested but want to know whatever numbers you can provide....thanks! Also, if you send the tuning cable, software and tuning table do you send the original tune for those of us who want to flash ourselves? I'm not a novice when it comes to electronics but in case I need to restore original factory tune. Sent from my XT901 using proboards

Sent from my XT901 using proboards I have to be honest, I don't have before and after dyno numbers for 4.0 Auroras and I don't want to quote magic numbers. I've contacted xjsman89 to see if we can get some numbers on his car since he has access to a dyno and an Aurora, or I might work with Rob before that. If a 2nd generation member would like to volunteer to do before and after dyno runs, I will refund $175.00 from his paid GP price to help cover dyno costs. I do ask that it is a DynoJet brand dyno since I have been using DynoJet for my other Northstars. If your car has a catalytic converter, installing a pre-cat oxygen sensor bung would be helpful as well for picking up the correct air/fuel ratio. As for my software, I do send out files that contains both the custom and the stock calibration so that you can easily switch if you would like to compare.

madtunerIs their a price difference between you programming my pcm and me doing it? Sent from my XT901 using proboards There is no price difference. The cable option just gives you a bit of flexibility if for example you decide that you want your shift points a little higher after you get the initial calibration.

Well, depends, I had mine tuned but not in an agressive manner, most of the changes were subtle although in the short term I did see an increase in gas mileage, I haven't really performed any definitive tests as of late (she isn't my every day car and only gets driven here or there on weekends).
As far as the fan speed adjustment... I am enjoying that one with some of the hotter days we have had this summer. Performance wise I would say I didn't notice much but as I said mine wasn't as aggressively tuned as some other members may be looking for. Not sure if anyone else has done it yer with the classic?

'95 models have been tunable for years. Different PCM though.

So no other 96-99 guys have got theirs tuned by Ion other than Rob?! Nothing to report if someone else has?! debating on new tint or tuned PCM.

Nothing to report if someone else has?! You want my two cents? Get your PCM tuned....if I take a long highway trip (Green Bay - Chicago) I averaged almost 25 mpg. That is 6 mpg more than before the tune. Now, I was driving with economy in mind. 95% of the time I'm given' her pretty good. Mine is tuned really aggressive however, no matter if I'm city or highway driving. Sent from my XT901 using proboards

I really need to email sometime down the road too. I would love to have the fans retuned!

You can do the fans without a tune.

Yeah, I like my fans coming on a little cooler rather than being on all the time though haha. Updating my original post, it seems that I am getting at least a 1-2MPG mileage increase combined city and highway driving.

I probably won't need tires until they dry rot now haha. 235/55/17s with less than 5k and 255/35/20s with less than 3 miles!
What recommendation do you all have for the tune?

What recommendation do you all have for the tune? 235/55/17 that's my size lol. I would get the rev limiter taken off, higher shift points (not sure which gear exactly) speed limiter removed, perhaps gettting the fan temps lowered. Perhaps ION can command the lows to be on at all times without us having to do the "fan mod" that Bob provided.

another trick I was told is possible with control over tuning parameters is the timing of the clutch pressure and application which can make a huge difference. The 4.0 has a nearly linear power curve with very few distinct peaks so shift points arent as enormously significant as they would be on other engines. but shift delay can make up a lot of time especially when we are talking about a car with a luxury tune in the PCM.

I have the (Madtuner) upgraded PCM in my '01. There is not a lot of improvement in power output (due to the decent tuning from the factory), but the transmission shift firmness and shift points made a HUGE difference in the way the car drives. and i noticed for some reason with the trac control off, it shifts hard! I noticed a difference in the tune, but it could have also been the 4.6 i swapped!

So can a non-bahn with removed top speed limiter break 130? Lol

Yes, easy. A non Autobahn with no speed limiter would probably also have a higher top speed in the long run.

Ion(Madtuner) is no longer tuning N* platform. I spoke with him probably a month ago. Wester's is the only place yet again AFAIK.
