1998 GrandPrix GT 4DR wants to race me? 97 nonban

It's just a regular 3.8 non s/c GT (NOT GTP S/C 3.8 or else i'd know the answer especially with just a few simple mods like a s/c pulley, intake, exhaust, etc.

But as I said it's just a Factory 1999 Grand Prix GT 4 door with no mods what so ever, I've never driven in a GT but i've driven a 1998 GTP coupe before when my dad did a tuneup and although it was peppy i'd say it only would of beat the aurora by like a car length if two, and the longer the race the more the aurora would have the advtantage for 2 reasons, if anyone knows about the GTPS or GM vehicles with the 3.8 S/C it's that in the 1/4 mile they do their CRAZY best for the first half of the 1/4 mile (no matter what mods) and then they seem to run out of steam and the other car catches up in the 2nd half ot the 1/4 mile, and especially since the aurora's G spot when accelerating is right when the GTP starts running out of steam; and i'd wager from say a 50-100 mph roll with a stock GTP vs stock Aurora that the Aurora would definately win pretty confidently (and no I am in no way bashing the GTP or the S/C 3.8, it's one of GM's most durable engines and one of GM's non-v8 engines that has excellent aftermarket parts and the motor responds insanely great to these mods!.


But back to the original Regular GT vs my 97 non-bahn aurora from a roll, I think I should win either way it will be a close race; I watched a 2g Aurora 4.0 vs the gen after the year i'm racing regular GT and the aurora pulled hard on it easily....

Hmmm....I'd say off the line if the driver hooks up correctly with the GT, it would take you by a car or so. They are much lighter and the torque comes in sooner than our cars. Like you said above though, as the race continues....90mph etc...The Aurora should take it. It depends what speed you race from also. If you guys start rolling from 20....hands down the Aurora will crush the Grand Prix. If you roll from 50mph, Forget about it, the Aurora will crush the grand prix. But if you start from a stop. The Aurora will need time to catch up.
I'd say this is what I would expect the results of the races be for both UNMODDED vehicles.
I have a 2001 Aurora, only an intake and Corsa exhaust with hi-flo cat.( which might I add woke up the car greatly) My GF has a 2008 Base model Grand Prix that I placed ported manifolds on, a 3inch downpipe with hi-flow cat, a FWI intake, Overkill PCM tune and HV3 intake manifold insert that SUPPOSSEDLY displaces the air differently to create better flow. I raced her one night off the line and I pulled 4 cars on her all the way to about 90mph....haha so you never know.

DO IT!! i just drove my buddies 02 Buick lesabre with the 2nd generation 3800 series engine. Just like you said, that thing has all types of torque down bottom. However they get around 60, or 70 and i can tell the aurora would crush it with no questions after that.

You should win. My friend with the 02 GT says my Aurora is faster. It will definitely get you off the line though.

Well he keeps stalling, also before I holloweed out my cat I had NO EXHAUST after the cat converter (the exhaust was disconnected between the cat the mufflers, I sawed the rear cat pie off and removed the resonator. My dad and I figured it'd sound tingy because of the low displacement V8 (similar the way Mustang 4.6's sound and yes even the 32v cobras) they have a real resonating sound (and not in a good way!!). But OMG it sounded so BEASTY my dad said it sounded like a cammed up 350 smallblock, I LOVED the way it sounded and it ran like a raped ape, I went WOT in 1st and traction control came on and came on shifting into 2nd i've never had t/c intervene in 1st gear, AND it got GREAT gas MPG (from 45-55mph staying at that speed steady I was getting about 34-36 mpg!!! ) However when I connected the cat back up even though it's hollow plus I removed the resonator I thought it'd be a TON louder even w/ stock mufflers, but its barely any louder and really only at idle i'd say it's maybe 5-10% louder and really only when idling, def. need some mufflers!

My friend has ridden in both cars he thinks the aurora will take it as long as the aurora's RPM's are above like 4k when it really opens up., the only mods I have are a hollowed cat, removed resonator & intake airbox mod.

Just race it, man! It's only a Grand Prix! Even If you lose it's not like it's a big deal haha. The hollowed out cat is a noise thing only really, I doubt there are any noticeable power gains. Maybe a couple HP.
