I installed an aftermarket remote start/RFID Keyless Entry a while ago. I loved the install and everything was clean except for one thing. The security indicator. A 5mm blue LED on the dash. Visible wires and obviously aftermarket. I didn't want to just disconnect the aftermarket indicator. I didn't want to get rid of the OEM security indicator(as it used for other warnings/indicators). I thought maybe switch the blue LED to a RED LED and mount in the center of the dash like other vehicles. Eh. Make the aftermarket feed into the OEM and retain OEM function? Yes! I thought it would be as simple as diode isolating the feed fro the aftermarket indicator input to the wire or PCB trace on remote indicator bank. However, I came to find out the OEM security indicator is ground switched. This posed a small problem. So used an NPN transistor to switch the aftermarket indicator positive feed to negative. Very simple. Parts used: 1x 2n4401 Transistor 1x 1k Ohm Resistor 1x 100k Ohm Resistor The new wiring diagram looks like this: Video pending.

Out of my league here lol No more complicated than wiring a relay. I actually drew the PCB with a resist pen. No software. PCB about the size of a penny.

Yea when it comes to stuff like this, it goes way over my head. Great work tho, just another custom touch to your Aurora.

Wish they would have merged some classic features to the 2G. No security indicator for factory anti theft on a 2G. Just the blinking amber "security" on the instrument cluster. Unless you have aftermarket security system....

Sall you and I think so much alike with things its uncanny. I always wanted to do this in my first Aurora but as it got totaled I never got around to it. No remote start/alarm in the new Aurora now :/
From the looks of it I would have been stumped figuring it out though haha.

Unless you have aftermarket security system.... The Classic just blinks when the door is opened, stays solid after armed for 30 seconds after door closed and theft deterrent. Don't quote on me on that though. It is red light on the remote indicator bank that says SECURITY(Obey my Authority it screams). With my setup all OEM features work and it also flashes the after market alarm. Sall you and I think so much alike with things its uncanny. I HATE to bring a zombie thread back...... But I must do it! I just received my aftermarket alarm/remote system today. I have learned that our cars are far more advanced than a typically vehicle.. Is it as simple as just wiring this up? Anything I need to watch out for? I would like every bit of advice anyone possibly could have! I have the 3 part repair manual for my car I'm sure this will help guide me. I disabled my door lock's due to my mods. So I think the factory system won't be activated. With this said, will this cause possible issue's? the remote start.....is this the same?simple?? I have never hooked one of these up in my life. I understand its a little different that a advanced audio system but how much different? The reason I say this, I know my way around audio (home or car) to a pretty far extent... Before I get to pulling my dash apart for like the 4th time I'm going to get any insight I possibly can from individual's who have installed these in the Aurora!!!! This is the one I ordered pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=280811109298&alt=web

I think the only switches or buttons on the whole car that actually connect directly to the item they operate is the window switches and the reading lamps. As far as I've been able to see in gleaning over the wiring diagrams, everything else goes to a black box as an input, and the box decides if it's OK to do the thing you're asking for. That include the door locks.
Since you've disabled your locks through other mods, you may be back to a plain basic system with the remote. You'd have to be sure none of the wiring still feeds back to one of those control modules, though; make sure your locks and aftermarket remote controller are completely isolated other than power and ground.
As for the remote start, I dunno. You'd probably need a VAT bypass to disable the reading of the ignition key resistor, unless something like that is included with the kit you have. That would apply to just about any modern car, though, so they've probably accommodated it.

Thank you very much wfooshee!!
I only unplugged the connections to the locks themselves! I shaved my handle's and don't need them to lock in case of a power failure! I will be using the unlock button to control the driver "door popper" so it will also disarm the system. And the other aux controls to open the other 3. I think I got the actual alarm system part figured out(in my head). Its the remote start I'm worried about. It doesn't say anything about a bypass feature that I know of.
Again thank you for your input! I will not jump into this assembly for awhile,so I can use all of the input available!!!!

This was primarily about merging the indicator, but wiring the remote start is pretty simple. Though I would recommend grabbing a spare ignition harness and soldering directly into the harness. No t-taps. I'd solder everything in the whole system unless you absolutely can't. The hardest part of mine was molding the column for push start button. Probably my favorite 'mod'(RFID keyless entry/push button/remote start).

I'm sorry Sall, I searched the forum over and over. This was the closest I could find that a remote start was installed. Yeah I will look for a ignition harness and solder it together. Don't want any failure's.
I didn't know anyone added a push button start in these car's.. Funny thing is..that is a mod I will be doing when get to my interior build!
Thank you for your feedback!

You're welcome haha, yeah I don't like the app or mobile version of this site at all. Remote start really isn't too bad to install. If I was able to do it on my last Aurora, I'm sure you can.
