My beautiful 2002 was rear-ended this morning hard enough to buckle the fenders and close the gap between the rear fender and the rear doors. I was at a complete stop about 3 feet behind the vehicle in front of me. I looked up in the rear view mirror in time to see the guy's face in the car behind me as he panicked. He hit me at around 30 mph... I bounced off of the car in front of me causing my radiator to leak. The guy in front had a minor scratch in his bumper. The perpetrator... My baby... The center section of the nose directly under the hood was pushed in six inches. I pried it out to open the hood. The hood will not relatch, the trunk doesn't open/close easily, although I CAN make it work with some effort. Fortunately, I have full coverage, and even in a no fault state, I was at a stop, brakes pressed, and rear fog lights on... There isn't any way they can pin blame to me.

There isn't any way they can pin blame to me. Whenever you're rear ended, you can't be blamed. And as for whoever hit you, sue him out of existance!!!

Too bad . A stupid cavalier at that. At least you are okay and that's what matters! Cars can be replaced... On a lighter note I think most of you have seen this...

I have no intent to sue. My neck is stiff already and I'll be going to see the doctor for it... The car still runs and drives, but it definitely has a radiator leak. Steam from under the hood. I'll try to get more pics this weekend... I REALLY hope they don't total the car due to the rear-end damage under the cover. BUT, I still owe the bank on it, so I kind of hope they DO total the car and I can buy it back after all is said and done... The engine will end up in my Fiero if that is the case.

Likelihood of a total is pretty high. Glad you walked away with little to no injuries. Could have been much worse. However, a 30MPH hit and hardly any cosmetic damage...that's awesome! Just an indication of the strength of these things. If totaled, and given the option to buy it back, DO IT!

Front looks worse than the rear. Don't think its totaled though...but I guess you can't see behind the front or rear bumper for frame damage.
What a jackwagon! Was the perp on their phone?!?!?

No, he wasn't on his phone. He said the brakes just didn't work. I suspect he was distracted, but doubt it was his phone.
Bad case of whip lash....

Well atleast your fine. The funny thing about all this is, this is a good comparission of how much quality parts count towards the cost of a vehicle. You look at the cavaleir and you would think it hit a WALL look at the aurora, looks like you backed up in to parking pole by accident.

Sorry about your Aurora!
I like to leave a 10-15 feet gap between me and the car sitting in front of me, I have always done this, in my state if you rear end anyone for any reason, it's your fault. Another reason is, I watch the vehicles behind me, if someone is flying up, I will be prepared to take action. About 6 months ago some people were behind a semi sitting still, then another semi slammed into them doing about 60, the people in the 2 cars all passed away.

The Olds still runs. It got me to work, then to the doctor's office for my neck, shoulders, back. I had it towed to the shop, and hope to hear something tomorrow. I hurt bad today. Yesterday and Friday night were pretty hard on me as well.. It didn't help that we also had to do some painting in the house this weekend... REALLY Hoping they don't total it...

$10,577 to repair the damage to the vehicle.
Waiting to hear from the insurance company. They are going to total it. I want to buy it back, but not sure if I'll have the funds in order to do so.
I won't be able to fix it myself, as it will need a lot more work than I can perform, but it will have plenty of parts, including a running/driving powertrain for a swap if I can find someone who'd be interested.

The rear frame rails are buckled 8 inches vertically into the trunk. The rest of the chassis is compressed over an inch end to end.
They are willing to give me 5700 and change for it, but won't consider the all new shocks/struts (Monroe Sensatrac) that I just put in a month or so ago... I did the complete front strut kit on both sides, new springs, etc...
They want $1000 buyback for the entire car... I'd do it if I could.
If anyone on here need new Monroe rear air shocks, or Sensatrac strut kits for the front, or four chrome 17" wheels that are mint, I'd consider buying it back. and parting it out...
Hell, it has two brand new front tires on it, new sway bar end links, bushings, axles, etc.
I just installed a brand new fuel level sending unit, throttle position sensor, idle air control valve.... The list goes on and on...
I still have time to make a decision...

That's the thing... It DOESN'T have a lot less damage. It has a hell of a lot more. The entire rear end is caved in... You can't see it because the rear bumper cover popped back out. The impact beam is practically non-existent at this point.
We are thinking about doing a buyback on the car and picking up a second Aurora.. Strip this one of all of the new parts I put in it in the last year, and part the rest out.
We just put in all new KwikStruts from Monroe, new rear Monroe air shocks, remote start last winter, new tires, etc...
This one isn't easily fixable. It is seriously caved in hard in the back. I went by the body shop tonight to get my stuff out of the car, and the entire floor of the trunk is lifted up nearly 8 inches at the peak of the crumple zone. The spare tire is wedged in and up, and won't budge no matter how hard I pry on it.

Bought it back. Looking at another 4.0 here in a couple of days. Trying to decide if I want the black one with 144k on it, or the white one with 133k... Both are in great shape, new tires, etc.

They gave me 5866.25 for the car, they are paying for the tow/rental/etc.. Buyback was $1,000.00.... I only paid 4800 for it in the end. So I'm not complaining at all. Wife and I just got approved for a small loan to pick up the new Aurora. Person with the black one has not gotten back to me yet, I want to look at it, but since they won't email me back and didn't include a number, I don't have any way to do so.
The pearl one, I spoke with the owner... 133k, moon roof, no heated seats.. I can move my heated seats over to the new car though. Wiring should all be there, I'd assume, just plug things in, right?
