Not that I condone going to Wal-Mart, but I've actually seen a lot worse at places like Jiffy Lube, etc. haha. My rule is, never let ANYONE work on your car, unless you know and trust that person.

I have had a rather surprisingly incompetent bad experience with a "Wally World" service on my girlfriend's car, as well as a rather broad and annoying bad experience at the selling major market dealer of one of my new cars, during collision repairs, AND with routine warranty service, so it is not the tech nor the manager, nor the store, but the particular circumstances. Never trust your mechanic; inspect and verify the work, before you leave there, or ASAP afterwards, and document anything out of norm. We are all humans and we fup uck at times, but remember that even professionals have off days.
