I wonder if the interference you are seeing is because your brace loops around the front of the tower. My brace and Sall's only connects with the two center strut bolts? It must be tighter under the hood of the 1st gen Aurora. My brace can't get any lower, it is about 1/16th off the brake reservoir. Good luck, Rich I just cut off that piece today. Now it only connects with the two center bolts. It was hitting there. Removing that did seem to help some. Now it seems the bracket is keeping me from making my hood completely flush. The drivers side is perfect. The passenger is raised a bit. The difference between the drivers side is my liner seems to have a patch in it that is now pushed up where the drivers side does not. As it sits now my brackets are all the way down.

So an OEM part number for the Classic brace, the one that is bolt on, with no sanding, cutting, duct-taping or hood bowing is???

So my hood is still screwed up and this is about as good as it's gonna get I fear. I chopped off part of the bracket that was hitting the hood. My drivers side of the hood is nearly perfect. The drivers side of the hood liner has a patch that is pushed in from the bar. The passenger side of the liner is unaltered. Could that be why the drivers side lines up and the passenger side doesn't. My passenger side is still bowed though. People who also have the GXP bar post pics of your hood alignment for me please! It bothers me. Ideas? Lol 98redaurora

Bump. So I'm thinking I may need to make some custom brackets or something for this bar. And then attempt to lower the hood with a body hammer. Which may not work due to the reinforcement under the hood.
I'm probably getting this whole car repainted, so I may just get another hood lol. It's so frustrating because I already paid $75 for the bar.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I am working on fitment of a Bonnville STB on my Classic. This thread is the most recent I found, and by coincidence, my car is also a 1998...
After a fairly epic search for various bolts that GM has discontinued and no longer provides parts specs on, I was able to walk into a hardware store to find grade 8.5 strut tower bolts. My car seems to want 1/8-1/4 inch more thread for the brace, than the 1.5 cm or so of the [metric] m10 x1.50 coarse thread stock bolt. (Sorry for mixing Metric & English Units terms, but I think in EU. You can do the conversion, if you are even more A-R than me.)
I have underlined this information, because my search has left me really annoyed that the parts industry wants to describe GM-spec'ed parts, without just saying what the *%#*-ing spec is. They are discontinued. GM isn't making them anymore, doesn't want to sell them anymore. I don't care if GM has the patent (which I am not sure they do). I just want a *bleeping* part that works...
Anyway, the replacement bolts that I bought are the above spec, but roughly 2.6 cm long, instead of the stock 1.5 cm. (I'm approximating because I'm measuring EU, doing the conversion, instead of buying a metric tool.) The original bolt also has a tapered tip, without threading, so I will be grinding the new bolts down to fit, if needed.
...if you wonder about the rest of the fitment, It looks to me like the passenger-side bracket wants slight clockwise rotation of the bolt-holes and the driver-side wants a similar counter-clockwise rotation. I am trying to decide if it is better to try to bend the bar a little, or enlarge the bracket holes. (I assume this is the main source of "hood bulge," with this brace.) Without the bolts in place, it looks like a "perfect" fit should be possible ---as perfect as you can get with 4 of the six holes looking to be 2-4 mm off.
The brace has complicated enough bends that I hate to try to bend it & mess it up. I spent $130 on it (with brackets) on eBay. Not a great price, but parts cars that are compatible are hard to find around here. On the other hand, I don't know if enlarging the bracket holes will reduce the rigidity of the setup. I need to do some test-fitting, to get a clearer picture.
If/when I have something I think works, I will post again, noting my adjustments & with pictures. I did't post any pictures today, because except for the specifications I have noted, these really are just plain-jane bolts. Looking up & referencing a GM part number for something that is better described by its actual specifications, just seems really really stupid.
