STOP THE HEADLIGHT SANDING! There's a better/easier way. I have been detailing cars for over 20 years, I used to do the same thing. Now the only time I sand is when I am refurbishing and repainting. Now I use a high speed buffer using a fairly heavy white compound (something like white Dupont compound). 1st I tape off headlight (otherwise you will wear down any painted surface), turn speed down to lowest setting (usually 1000 RPM) as not to burn plastic, and buff out the headlight takes 10 minutes. Some kits have a wheel to use on a drill. Then polish with a durable acrylic/ or polymer wax and buff. About 13 years ago Blue Coral came out with a heavy bonding type wax, it lasts for years, the problem was as it wore down unevenly. We wear actually contracted by Blue Coral for customer complaints to remove. This was actually an ideal product for maintenance on headlights. Polishing and sealing only lasts 4 mo to 1 yr pending driving habits and exposure to acid rain and other pollutants. Since UV coating is wearing off. 4000 grit sandpaper will strip everything off and then repaint with a UV paint, when we go this route we guarantee for 3 years no maintenance. But from what I have read on sanding you could loose some of the optical properties of certain headlights. We charge $19.95 to polish and $49.95 to repaint. for those looking to get into it.
