My car is starting to show a lot of rust spots, my regular mechanic suggested a cheaper way to go is try gloss black plasti dip since that's the original color, after I sand it obviously, my factory paint job keeps chipping and peeling farther and farther, a lot of primer and metal showing, he said if I don't like it to peel it off, suggestions? Trying to stay very economical

I've heard plasti dip can stop rusting if in small spots if treated correctly, if there's a plasti dip shop that has the equipment to spay should cost about $250-400 depending on how many gallons they use. Now here's the fun part, if you buy the equipment from there website it will cost you roughly $200 for the full package, the gallons range from $55-66 and to do the average Sudan it would require if I remember correctly about 4-6 gallons. Also if you want a new color all you have to do is peel it off and spray the new on. If you have the money I would go for the full package and go for a pearl white lol

Band-Aid, and not a cheap one. The "economical" thing to do is start saving for the inevitable paint job. Keep the rust beat back with sandpaper and rattle can primer. It ain't pretty, but it is fairly cheap!

I agree with Tigger except when your doing your touch-up sand, prime, and use actual paint (Yes, you can still use jiggleball cans for the paint) to cover your work. Most primers let moisture right through it making your efforts to remove/stop rust a complete waste. You have to use paint to "seal" the primer.

I started with my own cans and got half the car done, absolutely love it! I someone can tell me how to post pics from a mobile phone I'll post em, I love the flat black look personally, and my cop buddy told me rumors that flat black rubber paint/ undercoating paint can absorb laser radar so that they can't get a speed reading..... I hit the speed limiter twice this month, would love to get it removed lol

What I do to post from mobile is use photobucket. There is a address you can copy into the thread and it will insert the pic.
I have been wanting to plastidip my car for a while. I've been wanting to try out their new pearls or chameleons for a while.

Light detection and ranging, LIDAR or "laser radar" does use reflection of light to calculate speed. So, I guess it only follows that a less reflective surface would skew the return. What about the glass? Tell him that's BS.

He wasn't sure he just heard rumor, that was based off a guy in PA a couple years ago flying down the highway in a Lamborghini that had some sort of flat back coating on his car, radar and laser wouldn't pick him up so they had to stop watch him, when they finally pulled him over he had no scrambler equipment so that's all they could figure, and get this, he had his lights all covered with same stuff and had some sort of night vision goggles, military grade, stuff you only see in the movies, but if you can afford a lambo who knows what else you got

Ya I haven't gotten to fixing that, been that way since I bought it, priorities first lol it works. Getting most of my front end replaced Thursday, tie rods, away links, etc then getting rid of air suspension too and having my mechanic install monroe max air shocks with manual fill valves till I can afford an in dash air controller with dual gauges, found the setup I want just gota get 500$, includes high speed compressor too. Then I have to weld up new metal under unibody, under driver and pass seats ther are holes bout the size of a softball in the main support rail of unibody, chassis shop said not major yet but should be fixed before it gets worse and more expensive

Now that's not finished, ordering anthracite metallic dip with a gold or silver flaked clear coat, haven't decided yet

Haha, mine was broken when I bought it too. $10 bucks at a salvage yard when you get around to it. Most Cadillacs, the Buick Riviera (maybe other buicks) share the same one as the Aurora too so its pretty easy to snag one. Mine came out of a '93 DeVille haha
