So i'm curious as to what a normal running temperature for a 2001 3.5L fully warmed up would be. The last 3.5yrs i've had this car, its been at the half way mark on the cluster (torque reading usually around 100degrees) city and highway. All of a sudden, for the passed week or 2 during my highway trips (higher speeds/rpms) the car runs at a significantly cooler temperatures (cluster reading 1/8+ cooler and torque reading anywhere between 79degrees or slightly cooler)yet the city driving it warms up more (cluster back to halfway mark and torque reading around 100degrees).
**I should probably add i just hit the 200000km mark too**

Celsius or Fahrenheit?
My 4.0 at idle fully warm runs around 200•F. Slightly cooler when driving highway speeds and city driving it will get to 215-220•F.

Celsius, sorry should have said that. So driving up to the cottage yesterday (2.5 hr drive on highway)my car was running between 156•fahrenheit and 170•fahrenheit. Today on the way back, it was between 156•fahrenheit and 212•fahrenheit, mostly towards 170•fahrenheit. In the city, i get a stable 220•fahrenheit. But what i'm getting at is for the last 3.5yrs, it's always driven at a stable 220•fahrenheit no matter city or highway. Just got an oil change too. I'm happy as it is, as i seem to be getting better mileage now than before, but could there be a part going that I should be worried about? (I'd assume thermostat)

Yep, sounds like your Tstat is stuck. Luckily, it stuck open!
Won't be any fun this winter though. It'll take forever to make heat, lol!

hahah lucky me eh! well if it stays the way its acting now, it heats up pretty quickly, just never fully reaches it's proper threshold. so is the thermostat something i should get fixed stat or is that something i can put off. the temp gauge reading is actually where a new car's would be

It heats up quickly now because it's warm outside. I'd replace it, but that's just me.

Too much of too cool always seems to foul my Mustang's plugs. Its best to replace it darnit.
Find out if there are any burping or trapped air tricks when refilling your coolant. My MarkVIII has this plug with an ill conceived 1/4" hole to undo it on a coolant crossover tube. I did some soaking in penetrating oil, did some tapping and had to buy some pricy 1/4" extensions to get it off.
