The HVAC fan on my 01 Aurora makes a rumbling sound when it runs on high. I checked the cabin air filter thinking leaves may have gotten in there, but the filter was still in place. Is there a way to get to the fan to see if anything is in there and clean it out. Or will I need to pull it apart?

it might need replacement. but if you remove cabin filter you should see whats inside the fan.

The problem I'm having is, the motor is noisy, but before I can get a look at what's in it, a metal shield rolls down slowly and closes it off. What is this, and how can I keep it open? It stayed retracted the last time I pulled something out of that motor.

'Cane, I think what you're describing is the air inlet valve. It closes off all(most) outside air when you depress the RECIRCULATE button or are in AUTO to cool the interior more quickly. Set it to front vents, low fan, A/C off. You're not going to stick your hand down there with the blower moving are you?

Of course not, but with the valve down, I can't even SEE the blower. I figured it had to do with the recirc, but I never use that. Thanks for the advice.
