This is on a 2001 4.0. I have 3 questions guys:
1.) It's been a while since removing and installing the intake manifold, so I want to be sure on some things. I will be modifying the manifold myself and I'll make a post on the results in time. Were the torque specs for the manifold 89 ft./lbs. of torque? What was the installation pattern of the bolts? start in the center, then the opposite bolt, continuing in a circle pattern from there on? And I don't tighten to 89 lbs. on the first shot right?
2.) For the starter, I figured I'd change it while I'm in there. It's cheap enough. Are there torque specs for the bolts when installing the starter? or just tighten fully?
3.) I need to replace the water pump case gasket, b.c I'm getting a small leak. Are there torque specs for the water pump case bolts? I figured once I change that oblong gasket in there, I wouldn't want to over tighten and crush it. Also, for access to the water pump case, I need to remove the EGR valve in the way. Advanced auto parts only has the gasket for the EGR valve base. The gasket that sits directly under the EGR valve, but not the one further down that oval and connects the two tubes to each other...if you follow. Anyone have the name of that gasket, or a part number?
Thanks!

89lbs for the intake bolts sounds wrong to me, it should be nothing close to that.
What do you mean by water pump case? I am thinking you are talking about the coolant crossover, if that is the case those gaskets are called water pump gaskets at local parts stores and online catalogs. The bolts on the coolant crossover usually come out a little tight, when I install coolant crossover gaskets I re-tap out all the bolt holes and clean them out. I am not sure which egr tube you are talking about, but most of them do not have a gasket.

IMPORTANT! 89 INCH POUNDS for the 2G 4.0 intake manifold bolts, not 89 foot pounds!!!!!!

Yes my mistake, I meant inch pounds haha. I was reading an article on a car earlier and it was mentioning the torque, so it was on my mind. Okay so 89 inch pounds.
Randy, the casing that covers over the water pump. It has 4 bolts. That's called the coolant crossover? Okay yep, then that....So they do not need to be torqued to a certain amount? I have the gasket to put inside of it and was concerned I might crush the gasket if I don't tighten them to specification. The EGR valve is the one that sits directly in front of the coolant crossover. I would need to remove it so I can make room to properly remove the water pump. That EGR has the metal tube attached at a junction a little further down, It's held by 2 screws. I figured it be best to remove it from that spot. Was just wondering if there was a gasket sandwiched between that spot or not...wanted to be fully prepared to do this in one day without back and forth trips to the part store being it's my only car. It be a long walk lol.
Thanks.

I am not sure what you mean by covers the water pump. The coolant crossover is the part the water pump sits in, it is attached to both heads. It has 8 bolts and 4 gaskets. Coolant crossover image link.

Wow that looks nothing like mine Randy. Is that a 1G? I put up top this is for a 2G. Maybe that might be the confusion. I was watching YouTube videos on how to change the water pump on a Northstar V8. The removal of the part I'm talking about ( the water pump cover...what the water pump sits behind with seals) were identical to mine. My water pump cover only has 4 bolts and the water pump sits behind that with seals. There is also a EGR valve to the left of that cover, but it sits in the way so it make removal a little more difficult.
My main concern was just the seal I picked up for that water pump cover. In the video, the guys all place that seal in the cover and they put the cover back on after the water pump was installed with that special socket tool. I don't want to over tighten the cover b.c I don't want to crush the gasket. Was hoping someone has the torque specs on that. The videos were great for step by step; however, they did not mention anything about torque specs. And the other one was the gasket for the EGR. Not under the EGR itself. The junction between both pipes a little further down. Is there a gasket sandwiched between it? I see two screws holding it together at the junction....

That's the right one Scotty, that's the engine side. Does this look more familiar? I know what you're saying, just don't have that info right now, sorry.

Ok yea now I got it. ha! Well okay so the coolant crossover. The cover to that. It has a gasket that sits inside of it right? These guys on the video are explaining how you change the gasket then put the cover back on after you are finished replacing the waterpump, but aren't mentioning what to torque the bolts. I don't want to over tighten and crush the gasket. And in the video there's a EGR thats in the way of that coolant cover that would need to be removed. SO I know there is a gasket under the EGR, but was wondering if there is a gasket further down at the two screw pipe junction. I figure i'd disconnect it from there, so I could remove the pipe and EGR all at once....
