Hi, I'm new to this forum however I have had my 1997 Aurora since purchased new in late 1996. It only has 41k miles and is always cover and garage kept. I keep it spotless, inside and out including the engine bay. To date it has never given me any problems (yes, I know, low miles).
I am now looking to do some up grades and have I am starting out with the intake and exhaust. My question is, has anyone had any experience with the Weapon-R-Secret Air intake? I have did as much research as I can through the internet on it and other intakes but what to see if anyone has any real world experience with the Weapon on an 1G Aurora.
Many thanks, Tom.

Eye candy. Draws hot air from engine bay, better off with stock set up IMO.

I am going for this intake, but solely for the extra V-8 intake sound it will (likely) produce once I step on the gas. My intake is already in the mail. The kit also comes with a flexible air duct, not sure how this could be routed and, especially, not sure if that could muffle the sound.

Tom, There are a couple cold air intake setups that have been done here. this thread is one of them, Randy T did that one. I wouldn't get the intake you mentioned for a couple reasons: I had one like that. It sounded a little throatier but that's about it. Once I put on the straight pipes (and later, the exhaust cutout) you couldn't hear the increased intake noise at all. It actually doesn't improve performance as much as it could because it's not a cold air intake. Putting a filter like that in the engine bay draws warm air from the bay itself and not outside. Your stock intake draws outside-temperature air, making it a cold air intake. I went back to my stock intake because of this. It has never been tested, but I'm guessing that going from the stock cold air intake to a warm air intake wouldn't help performance all that much, if at all. A setup like Randy has done (Sall has a similar setup with PVC that looks great) is the best solution since you get more flow than the stock intake and it's a true cold air setup rather than just sticking a chrome pipe with a filter on the end onto your throttle body and drawing warm air. You were talking about exhaust as well. There are a number of muffler options available that sound good on our cars, but personally I love my electric exhaust cutout. Sall has one as well, and I think he would tell you it's a good purchase. Straight pipes when you need them, and quiet as stock when you don't. I know it's a long read (and a fair amount of it is drivel. ) but you can find my exhaust cutout thread here. It's an option to consider for sure. I found that after a few years of straight pipes that I got tired of the drone on the highway, and this cutout is the perfect solution as I just close it up when on long drives. My wife can finally stand to ride with me on the highway again! I hope that is enough info. Ask any and all questions you might have, that's what we're here for!

Actually -- the more I think about it, the more I think I will go with installing the "Weapon-R" ram air kit I got with the air cleaner. This so-called "ram air" kit is a flex tube which mounts on the end of the cone air filter. I will route this flex tube so that the opening will be right behind the LH grille - removing the plastic plate that blocks part of the outer portion of the grille. p.s. cat was not included with kit.

JUST SO YOU KNOW. The kit won't work with 01-03 Aurora's. Unless your f****** motivated. There's a missing adaptor. It won't fit unless you work on it very hard. I did the job, as a feasability test, and the intake growl is worth it. But barely. Steps: 1) Getting a real 4" - 3.25" adaptor for the intake 2) Modifying the intake box to make it ECM friendly. The ECM needs to be cooled by incoming airflow.

I like the temporary duct tape. But for once, this is a duct.

Dang that cone looks small. What is the surface area on that?

Better. Browsing through plubming supplies, found the correct rubber adaptor. I will need to customize the ECM box before I get this project any further. But it's snowy and cold and it will wait a bit

With cold air intake. And downsized ECM box.

Are you going to make some sort of box/cover to go around the filter? If not you will still be drawing warm/hot air from the engine bay.

Yeah, as mentioned before, having an open cone filter in the engine bay is actually a warm air intake. That's why the factory box pulls from the outside only.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 using ProBoards I have a cold air intake on top of the cone, which I want to turn into a "ram air" intake, plus hot air intake on the side of the cone. I guess this makes it a "lukewarm air intake"...
