Bending this older thread somewhat.
I'd not find a manual transmission desirable, but would find swapping in a 6-speed automatic transmission interesting if there's a compatible one.

Well, since this thread got bumped anyway, I just have to prolong the agonizing argument about whether the 4.0 is a Northstar.
The only difference between the Cadillac 4.6 and the Oldsmobile 4.0 is bore. The Oldsmobile engine is sleeved, and has heads for the smaller bore. All other parts are the same. The use the same block, crank, cams (aside from some special Caddy cams in one option,) sensors, electronics, manifolds, throttles, injectors, and accessories. They are dimensionally interchangeable.
THEY.
ARE.
THE.
SAME.
MOTOR.
If I take a Northstar 4.6 and sleeve it down to 4.0, is it no longer a Northstar? Of course it's still a Northstar. So is the Aurora 4.0, because that's ALL that's been done to it. It's not a similar design, put out by the same people, based on the "other" design. IT. IS. THE. SAME.

I was trying to think of another Northstar manual and thought of the Cadillac XLR, but that too is Auto. However....it did have a 6 speed auto in 2007.....and the 4.4 Northstar variant (the LC3) that was also supercharged... That same engine was used in the STS-V good for 469 HP. So there's that. Well they aren't the SAME motor but they're the same motor. There's a slight difference. I also am fairly certain the cams are different, or at least I thought so. Thought that was the main change in the "Shelby" motors; 4.6 cams? Anyways people can call them what they want, I don't really care. It's a Northstar to me. They made a 4.4 (LC3) and its not not called a Northstar, it's still a Northstar. The 4.0 is .4 L smaller so it doesn't get the almighty Northstar distinction? Haha Or is it because they weren't used in Cadillacs? Then again they put the 4.6 in Bonnevilles and Buicks, does that bastardize the name of Northstar?? Do those 4.6's get stripped of the Northstar name? There really is no reason not to call it a Northstar. Some people just are stubborn or have a few screws loose I think

I always thought that O'mobile should have offered the 4.6 as an option, an Aurora GT or the like. Now, we just swap in the 4.6 Which has to be one of the easiest swaps one can do. I can buy a whole Caddie deVille with about 100k on the engine, pull the running engine and install it in my (near future) Aurora then install the 4.0 in the Caddie and sell it on.

That's one way to do it. I always figured if I ever tried I'd look for a wrecked Caddy at the salvage yard and rebuild the motor. Picknpull has long blocks for $175 and a $29 core
