i found some pictures on this website showing where the crank shaft position sensor is, but on my 2001 6 cyc 3.5 it looks like you have to drop the starter is that correct? Also on the pictures is shows two, but autozone said I only need one? Is that correct? We almost have it fixed just need this last bit of help.

Yes, and yes. CKPS is actually two in one on the 3.5, two separate units for the 4.0.

I managed to do the crank sensor on the '01 3.5 a couple years ago without dropping the starter, but it was VERY tight and took some four letter expletives to get it in. Doable though.
