I found an old shopvac hose in the garage and thought it would be perfect to attempt to make my own cold air intake. The first thing I did was remove the headlight to access the snorkel coming from the airbox. I then removed the lower grille insert and loosened the splash shield underneath the car to allow myself some room to maneuver the hose. I routed the hose from the airbox and down through the small opening just under the frame of the inner bumper bar and over towards the grill insert area. I then temporarily mounted an old shopvac floor attachment to the grille insert and attached the hose to it. After repeated test fittings and cutting off about a 1/2 inch of the attachment to allow the hose to bend without kinking i was happy with the result. I then re installed everything and started the car to check airflow. I must say I was amazed at the results. You can feel the air being sucked into the hose at the grille and it actually pulled a piece of paper into the opening. I have attached some photos of my project and a short video of the paper being pulled in, hopefully they are visible.

It's not much of a cold air intake, though I suppose it's helping the engine breath better, with the stock air box the air has to go through Several bends to get into the engine. Let alone only having the small Hole and having it open right behind the headlight. I wondering if you're Seeing any change in performance? There are some foam insertsBehind the grill, on my car that foam piece was loose and for whatever reason Was ripped, but anyways when I took I out it was Soaked in Dirt so I'm guessing it's job is to filter some of the air as it comes into the engine baY. What I kinda want to do is to make a hole in the air box To allow more air in and lay the pcm flat so the air in theory should make its way into the engine a little easier. I do have to Say I didn't think the engine could cause that much suction

From experience when I thought the Weapon Secret-R intake would work it had an extension hose very similar to what you did. The cone filter was able to fit inside the air filter box and I routed the cheaply made, thin walled, accordion style hose just like you did.
Needless to say you are right, the engine pulls ALOT of air. Make sure that hose is not prohibiting air movement. You will know soon enough if your car likes it or not by not giving you any lean multifunction codes.
I now run 4" silicone pipe to a Spectre filter in a custom CAI box. Lots of air!
Good luck! Cool little project.

I was just out in the garage screwing around when I found this hose and figured I see if I could direct some more air to the factory airbox. I think I accomplished this however this is just a temp install as I am looking into some smooth silicone hose and a dual snorkel intake coming off both front lower grille inserts. I would ultimately like to eliminate the factory airbox all together, but that will take some work with the pcm being located in it. I will post any future updates I perform.
