Hi,
I'm experiencing a condition on my 2002 where the driver side heated seat will keep turning itself on without pressing the button. It will cycle back and forth to high and low completely at random. If you press OFF, it will turn off, but will then come on again whenever it feels like it. I replaced the switch last fall and that did not correct the issue. Removing the fuse for the driver heated seat will keep the element from turning the heat on, but I can still see the switch cycling through Hi and Low when I look at it. Has anyone come across this and/or have a fix?
Thanks!
Dave

Have not heard of this problem before. I would start by checking your drivers side door wiring, not as bad of a problem on 2gs, but I would want to rule it out. Aurora door wiring repair.

I don't know if the wiring would be in the door for the heated seat on the 2G as the switch is in the center console.

The 2G heated switch module is under the seat for each side of the car. All the wiring goes under the center console under the carpet to under the seat.
If you pulled the fuse and still not working correctly then there must be a short in the switch side. I do know it is a ground activated switch. I had to wire it for my remote start to activate the heated seats manually.

I'm betting the heating element is on a separate fuse from the switch, and while you've disabled the heater you haven't solved the switch problem. If it's ground-activated as stated in the previous post, you've got a cut or pinched wire somewhere touching metal as it bounces around.

Also want to add that the switches are obviously isolated from each other so what happens on one side might not affect the other side. I'd pop open the center console and see if there is anything majorly wrong. In the meantime I will try and find a schematic for you. Edit: added FSM schematics Front Heated Seats (Driver)Drivers Side Heated Switch

According to that schematic, you have a frequent momentary short to ground in the pink wire between the switch and the heated seat module, which I think is under the seat. That's the wire that carries the ground when you push the On button, so anytime that uninsulated wire touches metal, the module thinks you pushed the button.
I'd bet that the wire is pinched somewhere under the seat. It could be frayed somewhere else and rubbing, but under the seat is the best bet.

Thanks for the information everyone. I like the wiring theory. This problem seemed to start after I had the center stack apart (radio, HVAC module AND DIC removed) as part of another repair. I may very well have caused the wiring issue myself when all this was torn apart, since the heated seat switch is on the console as noted in another post above. I'll retrace my steps and see if I can find a bad ground/frayed wiring. Thanks again!
