Hi all.
My 02 4.0 aurora is simultaneously my lifeblood and the bane of my existence. And now its giving me a new reason to be upset and I can't quite figure out why on my own.
While driving, I got the "Check Charging System" message with the battery light on. It intermittently goes on and off as the car is running. On the car sensor, it's giving me a voltage of around 11.7 to 12.4 as its running. I've done a few things to try to find the issue based on some of the other threads I was reading but couldn't come to a conclusion.
-With the battery out of the car and on a full charge, the battery itself is giving me right around 12v.
-None of the fuses I've heard being associated with the alternator are blown, they are all intact.
-With the car running, reading directly from the battery terminals, it's giving me right around 12v.
When the system is loaded (turning on as many accessories as I can find), the direct read off the battery terminals drops down into the 11's as it's stressed and then rises back up to sit around 12v as accessories stop being used.
One of the things I wasn't able to find is the grounding connection that is supposedly under the under the hood fuse box, so I'm not really sure if that connection is intact.
From what I understand, I should be getting a reading in the range of 14's when the car is running, but if the alternator was dead completely, the battery would just get drained.
Is this a case of faulty wiring that the battery isn't getting the charge it's supposed to? The battery not being able to support the charge off the alternator while running? The alternator about to blow up in my face if I drive the car?
*the battery was rated for 6 yrs and is from 2009, so that very well could be the issue, but I dont want to do a $70-100 experiment just to find out that it's not that.
