Wondering if anyone knows whether or not an LCM from a newer year would work with a 1996? The newer year LCM is a "purple" module part no. 25640703 whereas my car's LCM is a "blue" module part no. 25638307.
Are there serious electrical incompatibilities or just some functional updates to the module?
I need a blue module, but have only found purple ones, from salvage. (Even found an orange one from a Riviera, but no blue.)
Thanks.

from what I know they are very different and can not be interchanged. The earliest Aurora's did not have Daytime running lights. I may have a blue module if you are interested from a 95, I do not know the stock part no off hand.

Ok, wasn't gonna experiment unless someone could testify that they could be interchanged with minor behavior differences.
I plan to order one soon, but I'd be interested in what you (randnon) might have... My only concern is if it works - I found one, but it looked like heat damage on one of the pins, so I didn't risk it.
Thanks, Mike

I think I do have one and will pull it from my storage location and send a photo if you are interested. It came out of a 95 parts car I purchased 5 years ago and was operational at that time. Normally I test things before selling , but this is too involved since my 95 winter Aurora is up on blocks in storage. I will sell it for $40 delivered in USA and if " my module" does not work you can return it within 2 weeks for only the cost of postage to you. I can not guarantee this is the solution to your problem. Rich in Buffalo. You can send a PM To settle the details if interested.

Sorry for being away from the forum for so long.
Unfortunately, the problem I'm having is not the lighting module after all. I'll have time in the next week to do a more thorough diagnosis.
I'll try to explain more when I resolve the issue, as it's looks interesting and mysterious...

What is the issue?

The issue I'm having is the exterior lights (except headlights, they seem to function fine) will not go off. If I unplug the 16-pin connector from the lighting control module (LCM), they go off, but then I have no lights at all (except for brake and turn signal.) Also, with the 16-pin plugged in to the LCM, I hear random relay chattering at times. Not sure what this affects specifically, I'm guessing a group of lights may be strobing. My repair shop found and ordered a new LCM (after I started this thread,) so I tried that, but with same behavior. So right now, I plan on digging into the tech manual a little deeper, see if I can find anything. Also plan on tracing wiring harnesses to see if anything looks suspicious.

It might be worth your time to try out these fixes first aurorah.proboards.com/thread/23492aurorah.proboards.com/thread/2259Essentially electrical contact cleaner inside your multifunction switch to clean it out a bit. Had the same clicking noise and flashing lights on my car, solved it. I did what electrostatictommyboy did and left everything intact. See page two of the first link for this post: After applying vinyl and rubber dressing to my steering column and multifunction switch, my headlights started this flashing problem. After reviewing this sticky I looked behind the rubber molding at the base of the switch and could see the five holes described in this link without removing any of the steering wheel shrouding. Here are pictures of the same switch after removing steering wheel shroud. I just pulled the rubber back and sprayed the holes with this with the extender pipe attached: I then blew out excess with my air compressor: It cleaned it up and works perfectly now!! Not saying that this is for sure the issue, but I think its worth a shot!

Certainly worth a shot! It fixes plenty of issues haha. My '98 still going strong after that 'fix'.

I will definitely try the multifunction switch. I'll repost as soon as I can with the results. Thanks, and have a happy Fourth everyone!

It's been well over a month now after cleaning the multifunction switch, and it still works flawless!
My cleaning process was spray, soak, and compressed air. Repeat about a half-dozen times until the spray bubbled evenly out of every hole. I paced the whole process out over roughly 30 minutes. I used CRC 2-26, seem to have good results with that formula.
Thanks to all who contributed to this solution!

That's good to hear! Mine came back recently (had been almost 3 years I think) I couldn't get it to stop this time with the cleaning, I might have just not been patient enough. Ended up replacing the switch with one from the salvage yard. IF it ever comes back, and cleaning doesn't work , that's the next solution!
