Hey Guys! I have a 2001 3.5 v6 aurora with 100K. Just recently the ABS light/traction control and the "Service Stability System" popped up. I saw another thread that talked about changing out the "Steering Shaft Position Sensor" to fix this problem. I purchased the part and started following the instructions in the thread created by paulaurora . I have everything that I thought I was supposed to have disassembled, but can't seem to figure our how to remove the "Steering Shaft Position Sensor" without taking off the steering wheel. As you can see in the picture, it won't slide off the end of the shaft due to a "bulge" near the end that stops it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

I haven't had the pleasure of doing this one yet... Hope this helps; You can now remove the steering shaft position sensor. There is a little blue plastic collar you have to remove (don't break it!), and then three little clips you have to push back, and the sensor can be slid down the shaft. Disconnect the wire harness, and slide the sensor off the shaft. FWIW, if you have ABS and TRAC OFF lights, you may have a bad wheel speed sensor or bad wiring to them. They're part of the hub/bearing assembly. You'll need a scan tool capable of pulling ABS codes to find the bad one though.

Yeah, I removed the blue plastic collar but was still wasn't able to slide it off the end of the shaft. After reading your post I went back and looked at it again. I found a little bur on both sides of the shaft. I took a file and filed them smooth. Walla......it slid off the end of the shaft just like it was supposed to. I'm too tired to finish it up tonight, but will put it back together tomorrow in the hope's that my warning lights will dissapear. if not, well I guess I'll be taking it in to have the hub/bearing assembly checked out. Thanks again for your post!!

So I got it all put back together no problem and waiting with baited breath as I reconnected the battery and put the key in the ignition. Unfortunately all three (ABS, TRAC OFF, and Service Stability System) are still displayed. I am not able to pull any trouble codes up. Looks like I swung and missed. I REALLY didn't want to take it into the dealer.

Yeah, I noticed that as I was re-reading your thread......DOH!!!!! Well, hopefully I won't ever need to replace my steering shaft position sensor again.
Okay, I'll do that, thanks! ;-)

I just thought I'd report back to everyone on what the actual cause/fix was for me. After replacing the steering shaft position sensor, I thought it had to be a defective wheel hub. I hooked up my tech2 and the error code showed the left wheel speed sensor. I was going to purchase a new hub but read a couple posts about the wiring harness being the actual problem and not the hub itself. So, I tested the wiring harness (going from the hub to the ECM) with a voltmeter and there was no continuity. This pointed to the wiring harness being bad. I visually inspected it but couldn't find any problems. You can't always see where an electrical connection is broken so I ordered a new one from Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007QB798C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 . I installed it, and got everything put back together. The moment of truth....I inserted the key and turned it on.........my triad of warning lights had all disappeared. I was elated. Moral of the story....definitely test your wiring harness before purchasing a hub.

Believe it or not the "SSS" warnings just popped up again? ?? I'm going to go and retest the harness that I replaced to ensure there isn't a loose connection, but it maybe that I get the pleasure of replacing both items ( wiring harness and wheel hub) as it seems to be one thing after another with this car. It looks like AMAZON has the best deals on hubs as well if you need them. There are a number to choose from . They range from $36 (Mevotech) www.amazon.com/Mevotech-H513179-Wheel-Bearing-Assembly/dp/B006WQSKI0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1440085389&sr=8-6&keywords=2001+aurora+wheel+hub to to $83 (AC Delco orininal) www.amazon.com/ACDelco-FW293-Original-Equipment-Assembly/dp/B000C9QU5I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1440085559&sr=8-2&keywords=2001+aurora+wheel+hub FYI - This is for a 2001 3.5
