Hey all,
My white LEDs that I replaced the stock fog halogens with aren't cutting it anymore and based on my research it seems that the 3000k yellow is best for bad weather and visibility. I searched and found a few threads with fog light HID conversions but all were on the first gen, and was wondering if anyone had done it on the second gen. More specifically, I was wondering if anyone had done it and knows of a good place to mount the ballasts. I have PnP 8000k low beams and mounted the ballasts under the supports at the front of the hood, but don't see a whole lot of room left for mounting another set. A possibility I could see is beneath the headlight housing and above the fog housing there's a bit of space but nothing really to zip tie anything to.
Thanks in advance!

I put my ballast below the head lights I stuck them in to reinforcement bar on top I would speak to awehlage I don't think original projector will be good with HID. awehlage install new direct fit hid projectors for my car.

Thanks for the reply. So you're saying it would be a bad idea to put an HID bulb into the fog projector housing because it's not fitted for that? Like the light wouldn't be pointed properly? If that's the case I don't think it would be worse than the plug and play low beams I have haha

Any reflector or projector that was not originally made for HID use from the factory is IMO a no-no. However, I do have a 3000K H3C bulb in my Hella MicroDE foglights. The H3C bulb capsule lines up with the halogen H3 filament and produces a nice cutoff with minimal glare (and mine are pointed down at about 30ft anyways).
To each their own when it comes to modifying a vehicle but when I have 6000K (blue)-30000K(pink) HID reflector/projector glare in my mirrors or oncoming it's very distracting especially at dusk/night. Just don't be surprised if you get high beamed from oncoming drivers....

Yeah I vertically aligned my housings down after I installed my lowbeam HIDs and the cutoff is pretty crisp, not a whole lot of glare. I've driven by my roommate driving it at night and I didn't even notice any difference from other cars. Still, adding another pair of HIDs like you said will make it even worse. Is there any way to align the fog housings or is that only possible with the headlight housing?

Closed thread update: I went with a cheap pair of yellow Hella halogens to test out if they're strong enough for me. Thanks again for the help!

Nice informed decision. I think I would try to put some LED fogs down there. Perhaps some BMW X5 fogs or TRS Type T fogs. Probably take a bit of modification.

Haha thanks sall, Still haven't gotten around to installing them but definitely will this weekend. I did have a pair of white 880 leds that were obviously just the dimmest things ever haha so a proper led mod would be pretty useful
