So as you know, all of our 2001 auroras are turning 15 in the coming months. 15 years is a good length of time for any car, and to celebrate these beautiful cars, I would like to modernize the look and feel of my car. What I'm thinking of is to replace speakers and/or head unit for something better sounding. problem is I don't really know what These numbers mean, so that's where you come in. all I want you guys to do is suggest products because I'm not entirely sure what is what I'm looking for. i don't have the Bose option so no amp unfortunately, but everything is stock. Also I'm looking something that looks good, a lot of options to mess around and an aux jack, reasonably priced and easy to hook up if it's a head unit, and something that sounds good that fits to whats already in the car. thanks

Hello, To replace speakers is not hard but to setup head unit is not as 1 2 3 if u wanna keep chimes/onstar then u need special adapter that cost about 50-90$. Then you need to find the radio that will fit with ur radio Basel I don't recommend anything bigger then 6 inches screen. I have 7 now and I had to cut out thing in the basel and the radio install kit not perfect . The unit I have is JVC

Good suggestions will really depend on your budget and your goal. You've heard the good, cheap, fast thing, right? Are you looking for sound quality, volume, price, etc...
Just a factoid, 2G production started in November of 1999(as 2001 models). So a lot of 2G's are already 15 years old! FWIW, mine rolled off the line 12/05/00, about 2/3 of the way through the '01 model production run.

My 95' was the 21st off the line in Jan 31, 1994, my 99' was made on 06/1998, my 01' was made on 11/1999, so over half of the 2001 model Aurora's are past 15 years old. The only true model years are the Oldsmobiles final ones made was actually the true year for the models 2004.
I think the interior on the Aurora looks modern to me this day, and still looks real classy compared to cars made today!

I feel comfortable spending $150 ish, and I'm leaning towards devoting that towards a new head unit because I like the stock speakers as they are. My main goal with this is for the head unit to look like it belongs there, while giving the interior a facelift. Maybe a touchscreen kinda thing like what cars are coming out with today, that would be sweet. Though I think that's more for navigation. also how did you find out when yours was made!!? I always figured that many 2001's were made before 2001, but never 1999, interesting

Well, since this is mainly an appearance thing, I'm not gonna make any suggestions. You'll know what you like when you see it, lol! ...also how did you find out when yours was made!!? I always figured that many 2001's were made before 2001, but never 1999, interesting Haha, yeah, remember there is no 2000 Olds Aurora, they just introduced the '01 in mid '00 model year. I got the build date and RPOs from COMPNINE back when it was free! Enter your VIN in the search box on their homepage and hit search button. It'll tell you whether they have a record of your vehicle (they do), number of installed options, and the build date. If you want to see it all, they have a 5 for $5 deal. Not bad, GM only though....

I always figured that many 2001's were made before 2001, but never 1999, interesting [/quote] My father owned his own Oldsmobile dealership and had all the access to the history of the cars, documents and also my great uncle worked for Oldsmobile as the lead chemist for the gas engines and GM and taught at MSU. Then he Worked for a little bit in the Olds headquarters office before retiring in Lansing, Michigan. So Oldsmobile is a family heritage with us and we take pride in Oldsmobile. Theres also a code on your drivers door that can decode when yours was made along with your vin # that has to be decode too. The end of Oldsmobiles line up was arguably the best of GM, nicest interiors and the exteriors as well. Another side note is that Oldsmobile was also the first one to have the touch screen added to the trofeo in 1989 along with the car info and gps but later Guidestar is what moved the navigations in the cars and what became Onstar!. I wish Olds did go with the touch screen in their car lineups because Olds was already ahead of the auto world, and thats what started the touch screen computers and everything. www.businessinsider.com/gms-oldsmobile-toronado-trofeo-infotainment-system-2014-9

The only true model years are the Oldsmobiles final ones made was actually the true year for the models 2004. Just referring to 2G? My '98 was manufactured in '98. Just a couple months before my '99 actually haha.
