So I had bought my 96 Aurora a month and a half ago. Then I just began to notice a large rust spot on the inside of the rear driver side door. And it is also beginning to rust on the same spot inside the rear passenger side door. I was just hoping someone could give me suggestions as to how to fix this issue or maybe prevent it from rusting anymore. It seems like the door doesn't close and seal off correctly and moisture is building up around that area but I don't know for sure. I just really love this car and want to keep it in good shape so any suggestions would really help!

Previous owner apparently didn't pay enough attention to that area. I wipe down the door frames every wash, and as mentioned, no rust issues at all, other than a couple small spots due to shopping cart dings and such. Stripped those to bare metal and repainted.
Sorry to say ... it looks like from the paint bubbling around the rust through areas, that's only the start. Also a major structural joint that needs prompt attention. I'd also look REAL close at the door pillars - any rust through there can compromise the door alignment quickly.
Only real solution would be to cut and repair with new metal. Time to hit the scrap yards and look for a donor, or have a shop beat up a set of repair panels ... I don't believe such a thing is available off the shelf for these due to low production numbers.

I think it's a problem area, my '97 is the same way. You should also check and clean above the rear springs, and behind the plastic cover that covers the fuel inlet, check the fuel inlet area when the cover is off, there is a hose on the side of it, they rust off and let water in and cause problems.

That's rusting from the other side of the panel. There's no amount of cleaning the inside of the door area that would have helped.

Reminds me of my dad's '64 Dodge, and makes me even more glad I live in Florida. My car has the most abused (and in some places, utterly missing) paint job I have seen in the 32 years I've owned vehicles, and I have a total of about 1 square inch of rust, and none of it has gone through a panel (yet).
I wish I had words of advice...

My '99 is rustproofed ... is that factory, an option, or aftermarket? No stickers ...
Dunno, but it seems to be working. Only peeling issue was on the motor cradle, and I scraped and re-coated that when I did the crank position sensors last fall. Took a peek around when I got the mufflers replaced about the same time, and everything else looked exceptionally good underneath for a 15 year old car that's been through a bunch of Michigan winters.
I do remember a couple spots that were peeling around the trunk vent flap when I was working on the CD changer, but I fixed that as well. Only other rust I've seen is some slight bubbling next to a shopping cart dent in the driver's rear quarter. I dropped the bumper skin there and refinished the entire well lip, also last fall. Nice thing about black paint ... easy to match as long as you feather it in right. ;-}
