My 2001 with 3.5 needs to have the fuel level arm changed so the gauge is accurate. Would I be better off spending the extra money for a fuel pump or not. Occasionally after filling my tank, I can drive a few miles and it will start jerking like it's running out of gas. You let it idle for a few minutes and it will run flawlessly.
Can just the pump be changed and not the entire assembly?

Pump usually last long time. I dont see point to spend $ now . The arm will be way to go. My pump is original and car has already 156k.The arm was changed.

My gas gauge jumps around all crazy it will say I'm full when it's entirely empty I'm so tired of running out of gas. I'm a female and I do everything independently. If anyone can kindly give me advice or easy directions on how to fix this issue I would be very thankful and grateful. Oh btw I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora.

I had the same trouble with my 2001 4.0 some time ago. I had a new pump put in. End of problem.

You need to take out the fuel pump change the sensor and put the pump back with new sensor. its not super fast or super easy.

its not super fast or super easy. Yes. The retaining ring that holds the pump in its position has a very nasty habit of rusting in place.

If that ring isnt too annoying to get off with a brass punch being careful and using a large screwdriver or even a pry bar(to wack) can work but you want to ventilate the area so you dont cause fire
You need a new lockring and o ring or whatever, and you need can do that job one day and pull it up. see if the sock and stuff is full etc. If its not, i would just replace the arm. if its looking like the sock is tired and stuff, new assembly. delphi/ac delco

personally,
I would just replace the entire fuel module. That is what I am going to do on my other Olds. The 2001 intrigue. fuel gage is erratic. I bought the sending unit a little while ago.
Call it "peace of mind". you won't have to worry about anything else.
Also, what ever you choose to do. USE A OEM, or AC delco only. You are asking for trouble with aftermarket.
