Need serious help on 99 Aurora... car ran perfectly... got home and put windshield cover up and didn't start or drive the car for five days. Went out yesterday morning and the key fob wouldn't unlock the door and the battery was completely dead. We charged battery for 8 hours and went to dinner.... the headlights wouldn't shut off..... hooked the battery charger back up and went to bed. This morning, hooked the battery back up and can't get the headlights or taillights to turn off.
My husband is pretty experienced and very tenacious when it comes to this car! Last year he removed the alternator, had it rebuilt and replaced. Additionally, we have the 3 book manuals.... but I admit, I'm at a loss. I've searched the forum. We have tried several items including removing the fuses out of the front fuse panel... #4 & #8... direct accessory power relay (#23).... pulled the DRL resistor and nothing... the only way to get the lights to go out is to disconnect the battery.
Like i said, we didn't have problems until i put the silver windshield up to protect the dash..... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Normally Aurora's will usually have problems with the headlights periodically flashing on their own and not just staying on, but I would be willing to bet the cause is likely the same. Have a look through this thread Give it a good read as an easier way to accomplish the task is posted later on in the thread. Basically. I would try cleaning your multifunction switch as outlined later in the thread. This technique worked well for me for a few years (as in I did it once and then it stayed normal for a few years) I did eventually end up having to replace the switch with one from a salvage yard when a simple cleaning wouldn't fix it later on. A time consuming but not too difficult job. In any case, the first thing I'd suggest you do is give cleaning it out a shot. It took me a few cycles for it to finally work. But it works. In the meantime I'm assuming that you should be able to cut the headlights the way I did when I had the flashing lights problem - by disconnecting them at the LCM under the dash. Here's an explanation of how to do that that I posted before Alternatively, you can unplug the left connector on the LCM. Under the dash, remove the black plastic kick guard on bottom (3 screws), to the left of the steering column (near the emergency brake)you will see two boxes mounted vertically to a plastic bracket back to back with connectors facing the floor, the box on the right (if looking towards the front of the car) is the LCM. If you unplug the left connector, lights wont flash. The switch will also be non-functional except for the turn signal and flash to pass features. I/e if you need to drive at night you'll have to plug it back in while you drive, but is normal functioning during the day. Clearly not a permanent solution, but it will get you by until you can locate a switch. If you pull that plug you wont have any headlight functionality until you plug it back in...BUT everything else will be fine; brake lights, turn signals etc. EDIT: Also, the windshield cover is not still up right? I/e it's not still up and blocking out sunlight thus triggering the automatic lights, correct?
