Interesting that Aurora makes the list, out of 108 years of history. (Some races weren't run, during WWI & WWII.)
I would have bet you could put just about every pace car from the '70s on that list, even the corvettes. It looks like they had a 442, 2 Hurst Cutlasses, however. I'm stunned, to see that the stock v8 Mustang only made 10 hp more than the available straight-4...
How did a '70s Delta 88 not make the list? The Nash Ambassador in 1947? I think I may agree with Him, about the Bravada, but I am not a fan of SUVs.
It kind of seems like the article should have been called "Cars that I think it was stupid to have as Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Car." It seems like He kind of likes the Fiero, & doesn't have much reason to add Aurora.

I'm stunned, to see that the stock v8 Mustang only made 10 hp more than the available straight-4... Not unusual for the time. The 350 (5.7L) in the Camaro only put out 165hp, and the car was a good 600 pounds heavier. And I think the writer forgot to mention that was the turbo 2.3L, and that it wasn't "available" here until '84... This guy is a hack. Everyone knows "pace cars" are just marketing campaigns... Highest bidder get to put their shiny new piece of crap on display pacing "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", woo-hoo. For him to go back 40+ years picking out "lame" cars based on their performance specs is just pathetic. But he did mention our Auroras needed NO modification to maintain pace speed...

"Stock" cars from the late '60s, & all '70s, really make me sad. It's like the Big Three said "Hey, the United States has put a man on the moon! Now we don't need to make good cars anymore. Just make them fatter & slower."
But I guess this guy needed an article, he's gotta make $1. People have to wrap fish with something...
