I'm looking to replace the factory Sub in my 2001 with the Bose system. Currently I run a 12in sub woofer in my trunk but I'm going to need a lot more space in my truck very soon with the addition of a baby on the way. I want to replace the stock subwoofer with an aftermarket that can handle more power and run it directly off of an amplifier that I will have mounted in the trunk. Is this even possible? Will it affect the rest of the system if I just keep the subwoofer wires unplugged and run my own to my own amplifier? What size is the subwoofer if I remember correctly on my first generation it was in 8-inch but on the second gen I'm not even sure because I have yet to even try and pull it out because I don't even know how to do that yet. Any help and advice is appreciated thanks fellas

I don't know what size it is but you'd have to match the new subwoofer recommended volume to the OEM enclosure volume. I think I'd probably do a free air setup and mount them under the rear shelf in the 6x9 location if it is still present? Since you have bose your rear speakers are in the door anyways. There is some pretty nice 6x9 woofers available. You can even run them a small volume enclosure like 0.75-1cu ft. If you beef up the rear shelf.
FWIW have a five year old and two 12s and an extra battery in the trunk. Still have plenty of room for stuff and groceries but I don't use the Classic for road trips either.

Hmm I figured with a stroller and what not I wouldn't have the room... Maybe I could upgrade the current box I have... Definitely will need a gain control though lol

I also have an 01'w/bose Set-up,& the subwoofer on our 2nd gen., the 6x9's located under the rear deck act as the subs. & the rear door spkrs act as the highs. I tapped these 6x9 for my audio input for the aftermkt amp. On my 2-10's, works great for the past 8 yrs
