Been cleaning grounds and have a new alternator on hand. Car has been having on and off electrical issues like draining the battery, and lately charge issues. Tested the alternator and battery temp sensor - both seem to be fine. Been cleaning grounds under the hood and backseat, changed the negative battery cable, etc..
One of the crazy symptoms has been the Check Charge System on startup that goes away when I rev the engine up.. Only seems to return on startup?

What happens if you start the car, rev it, let it calm back to idle, put the enging in gear and turn on everything electrical?
Hot rod one wire alternators need to rev to excite themselves or something like that. My 68 Mustang has one. Frankly I don't notice it much because its pretty difficult to drive it anyplace w/o revving it enough. It is possible though to get down the street a little w/o engaging it if I try.
If one of our alternatora was working that way I'd say something is broken and to call a real alternator shop for details or to rebuild it.

The battery isn't weak? Does it crank slowly when you get the check charge system message on startup?

Voltage regulator is failing.

Thanks to the awesome write up in the how to (with pics) the new alternator went in and the car is back on the road without problem. The alternator actually bit the dust after I created this thread - smoked and smelled of burning rubber and electrical smoke. Checked the tension on the belt, and then replaced the alternator. Already had a new battery, cleaned grounds, and used a 1.5k ohm 1/4w resistor to test the battery temp sensor prior. Where is the voltage regulator? Things seem to be stable now - holding a pretty solid 14v on the display now. For a moment I was afraid the gatorback belt I had put on was too tight. Going to have this old alternator refurbished and put into storage for another day. Crossing my fingers to never have a parasitic draw ever again.
I really appreciate all the quick responses and help here!

Where is the voltage regulator? It's on the alternator. If you replaced the alt, you're good!

I started daily driving my Aurora and it also says "check voltage" here as there . I can go to the diagnostic screen and check battery voltage at 13.8-14 and when it dips to 12.8 it triggers the warning. I rev it up too and it clears

At idle your alternator is spinning the slowest so its output is the lowest. There are a couple of possibilities. You may as well clean your battery cables and check the connection at the alternator. That usually isn't the problem but maybe and its cheap. Then drive it up to the parts store and see if they can't do a charging system check. Maybe call first. Read the r&r thread on your starter here. The G1's aren't difficult but there are a couple things involved.
