Hey guys, just thought I'd throw this out and have you guys toss out ideas as I'm semi stumped. For about 4 days I've been getting a high pitched whining sound coming from the rear of the car, or at least that is where it sounds like it's coming from. I'll be driving along normally and then the sound will start, very high pitched and sort of sounds like it might be electrical like a motor but hard to tell. The noise will last for a minute or so and go away. IT does not sound like the usual air shock fill sound and as far as I know that wouldn't activate while I'm driving but I could be wrong.
Now, from where it sounds like it is coming from (passenger side rear near the back seat) my guess is the fuel pump is on its last legs. But here are the facts.
-It's a pretty high pitched whine, and to me sounds like it could be an electric motor but this is a guess.
-It only lasts for a minute or so and goes away
-The sound does not change with the RPMs - i/e when I accelerate it remains the same
-The sound came on again yesterday after going over a hard bump but still faded out on its own after about a minute
-I have not been able to find a spot to safely pull over and investigate since it started as it goes away after a minute or so
-No apparent change in performance of the car as far as acceleration, idling, driving, and starting
-The sound remains when I shut off the radio, turn off the blower, and does not change if I operate the power antenna (which is fully functional)
-Shocks and ride seem to be the same
-Air ride seems to be functioning normal. I sat in trunk with key on and pump activated like normal.
-No CEL or warning lights.
I was thinking fuel pump or something under the back seat but I want to be sure and I'm also stumped that there are no other apparent symptoms. If it's the pump, obviously I'd like to change it before I end up stranded or left high and dry in an intersection haha
Any thoughts?
have any other ideas feel free to toss them out. Thanks!!
