Hello world, Found a $600 Craigslist posting for a 2001 4.0 a couple days ago while just hoping to find a drivable $400 truck/van. PROS: Body is damn near flawless. Interior has no cracks nor rips. Pretty fresh set of tires. Factory rims have all center caps, and limited curb rash. Just under 160,000mi. CONS: Guy I bought it from claims it has a cracked block. But I drove it 30mi home on hwy with low oil & not even close to overheating. I'm debating on trying some K SEAL next week... Also fuel gauge is squirrely. Jumps from half tank to full. Smh. And only other major/immediate concern is it apparently needs either a new horn, or a horn relay.

The inaccurate fuel gauge may be due to a bad fuel lever sensor. And if you drove 30 miles with no overheating, I guess that there's no cracks or bad head gaskets. And welcome to ACNA.

As far as cracked block, he said he hit a speed bump hard, now it drips oil... I just assumed he had proof it was cracked. Could be oil pan or something though I guess... It seemed a little underpowered. Not sure how long since a tune-up. Was planning to change fuel pump assembly myself. All I have to do is unhook battery, remove gas cap, remove pump relay, & open that port in the trunk I assume. In my head it's an easy fix. LoL

Oh yea... There was a strong oil smell in the cabin when I stopped at the light on the exit ramp omwh...
Haven't moved it since I parked it. I'll troubleshoot next weekend.

The speed bump might have cracked the oil pan. And you are right about the port in the trunk to get to the fuel pump & level sensor.....I think that they are attached.

Dude, that seems like a deal!
Worst case you baby it through the winter and part it out then break even!
The upside is unreal. Figure out the oil leak, do a day of work and have a perfectly fine car.

After some research online it may just be valve cover gasket. The damn plastic bolt cover on the case is stripped and I can't get the engine case off to look. LoL smh

Nah not parting it out. Want to bring it back and then customize a little. But the winter part was pretty much the plan.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you may have gotten a steal. Here is a link on fixing the fuel sending unit, says for Bonneville but the process is identical. Pretty easy job as long as your lock ring isn't corroded solid to the tank. I would probably follow the steps and drop in a new assembly like you said, rather than just repairing the sender but to each his own. Fuel pump is close to 20 years old at this point anyways. aurorah.proboards.com/thread/15608Good luck!

Either fixing today or tomorrow probably. So far I've only replaced the hood struts(rises by i self and sounds futuristic lol), ran some K-Seal through it(fixed half the leak), and bought a Phillips cassette auxiliary.
