I haven't driven the Aurora in more than a month, so I decided to take it out to run a couple of errands a little while ago. On my first stop, I looked down at the passenger front tire and saw that it was nearly flat so I decided to head home and grab a different vehicle. Driving home, i quickly realized the brake pedal was going all the way to the floor and barely stopping the car. I'm sure it's a rotted out brake line but it's also the universe telling me it's time to part ways with this car. The brake line, the oil pressure and all the rest are going to be somebody else's problem because I'm calling my local public radio station tomorrow and donating the sucker. I had a good couple of years with this car and I really should have sold it in 2014 when I bought my Impala but for whatever reason, I just wasn't ready to let it go. Now I am entirely ready to wash my hands of it and move on.

They all come and go. I've enjoyed my Aurora time also but they're all getting old enough to buy their own alcohol.

So I submitted the Aurora for donation to my local public radio station this week. They have all my information and I'm just waiting for them to call and schedule a pickup. I'm finally facing reality and cutting my losses. But it's okay. I'm having more fun with my new (to me) Cutlass Convertible than I've had with the Aurora in quite some time. It's been a good run (mostly) but it's time to let that car go.

I looked at a cutlass when I found my Trofeo. I liked them a lot.

I looked at a cutlass when I found my Trofeo. I liked them a lot. I had just gotten OUT of a 93 Cutlass when I found my Trofeo. Those Cutlasses are fun to drive. I found mine to be a little underpowered with the 3.1. I have always thought about getting a drop top though. They are sharp looking cars.

I found mine to be a little underpowered with the 3.1. I have always thought about getting a drop top though. They are sharp looking cars. I agree. that 3100 engine is a bit anemic. The 3.4L twin cam engine was a little ballsier but far less dependable. They had a habit of throwing the timing belt and self-destructing. I prefer an old fashioned timing chain over a glorified rubber band. I really wish Olds had offered the W-body Cutlass Supreme with a 3800. I was having a blast with the convertible until the weather turned cold. Fortunately, North Carolina can have some pleasant, sunny afternoons, even in the dead of winter, so I'm hopeful of being able to give it some occasional exercise in the off season. Meanwhile, I'll be bidding the Aurora adieu on Saturday afternoon when the charity people come to pick it up. I'm just hoping I don't encounter it at a pick-n-pull yard somewhere down the line. That would make me feel a little guilty but hey, all good things do eventually come to an end. Well, the Aurora just left the driveway for the final time. The charity people came and towed it away a few minutes ago. It was kind of tough to see it go but at the same time, I was finally ready. Now I just need to sell my dad's Silhouette and I'll have my driveway back under control.
So I guess now that I'm once again a former Aurora owner, I'll resume my adjunct member status. Is there another Aurora in my future? Who knows? For now, I'm just going to enjoy my Cutlass.
I'm sure I'll be checking in here occasionally, maybe lurking more than posting, but until then, may the road rise to meet you (and your Auroras).

They all come and go eventually. At least you had the experience.

They all come and go eventually. At least you had the experience. Yes, I actually had the experience twice, the first time was with my '98 model that I bought in 2007 and wrecked in 2009. I loved everything about that car and it was a painful loss. I was excited to take the plunge again in late 2012 but after six years, almost to the day, I feel like whatever unfinished business I had there is now completed. Now it's time to move on. Well, my driveway continues to empty out. I sold my dad's Silhouette this afternoon so I'm down to just my Impala and the convertible. It was kind of sad to see that van go. It had a lot of history with the family but it will be doing much more good where it's going than sitting largely disused in my driveway.

Coulda done like me and parked it in front of a hurricane. Got almost 3 times what I paid for it three years ago. And mine had some "final straw" issues, too.

So I got an e-mail the other day from my local public radio station informing me that my Aurora sold at auction on 17 December for "$500 or less". I immediately checked the inventory pages for the two boneyards I frequent and was relieved not to find a '95 Aurora in stock at either place. I just hope whoever bought it plans of fixing it up and not parting it out but that's not my worry. Oddly enough, between the two cars I got rid of last mont, I find myself missing Silhouette more than the Aurora.

When I bought my '97 everything on the car worked flawlessly. Within 2 days half of the windows stopped working, the SES light came on, and it developed a missfire. It didn't deter me as I was in love with her. The very same thing happened when I bought my '98. Everything but one rear window worked and no SES light. While I was literally in the office with the salesman the LCM went crazy and the lights wouldn't stop blinking. So this time the universe didn't even wait 2 days before things went south. Of course now she has a new 4.6 under warranty, new tires, exhaust, etc. and I'm so upside down in it that getting rid of her doesn't make sense.
