Can a second-generation Bose unit be used in the first generation? I can't find one for a first gen but I found the whole system for a 2nd gen if it'll work I'll buy it

Well, I wouldn't say it's impossible, but it's not a simple swap out.
If you had the wiring diagrams for both and a couple harness adapters, maybe.

Don't believe so, I thought the 2nd gen units were theftlocked with a VIN#? If that isn't true you might be able to get it functioning sonically by manually splicing the harness for the essentials (power, ground, speakers, lights) but you wouldn't retain the DIC date functionality or steering wheel controls for the radio and blower. All in all I'd say it'd be more of a headache than it would be worth, and you'd be better off getting something aftermarket that would retain those functions along with being new and technologically superior to the 14(+) year old BOSE unit.

Thank you for the information. I also found out that the speakers in the back doors of 2nd gen are different size than the 1st gen... 5.25" and 3". Meanwhile I decided to pass on the head unit and the amp that day, and they scrapped the car before I made it back. I did buy 4/7 speakers,(the other 3 had water damage) Happy New Year
Ps. I have FSM so I'm going to assume that I have wiring diagrams..

Not really worth it IMO. Doable, I'd assume yeah.
