Hello Aurora drivers!
It is unfortunately time for me to let go of my 96 Olds Aurora, as the repairs are beyond what I'm willing to deal with. It runs and drives great, I drove it to work this morning! One big issue is that the AC pump has failed, and although it still drives OK I'm pretty sure that will need to be fixed ASAP. A couple of years ago it was in a side/front collision that I had repaired, but the insurance company totaled the vehicle and left me with a salvage title. Those two issues and a handful of other little problems make it too much for me to want to fix. The car was bought new by my dad in Chicago, I took it from him in 2007 and drove it across country to Monterey. I've been driving it several times a week for a short commute to work ever since. It is showing its age in places, but still looks pretty good and has been a solid car for the time I've had it.
The problems:
Front end collision - salvage title
AC pump need to be replaced
VATS security key sometimes acts up making starting sluggish - but it always starts first turn
1 tire is bald (the other three are almost new)
Small dent front driver side fender
Small surface rust spot (maybe 1" x 2")rear driver side fender by wheel
Exterior trim is full of gaps coming loose
Driver side window not working
Power antenna not working
Dash fuel door release not working
Driver seat leather cracked, showing wear
Fuel line break (the recall problem) was fixed after the accident a couple of years ago by the GM dealership. They couldn't get OEM parts, and had to do custom repair. It seems to be solid and hasn't been an issue since.
Those are all the issues that I know of, and despite them I've been driving this car regularly until last week when the AC pump stopped working. Not sure if I should be taking the risk of driving it much right now, but I probably will once a week. If anyone is seriously interested I can make a video walkthrough of the car to detail everything I know of.
Thanks for looking! Feel free to let me know what you think, I will watch this board for a couple of weeks. Or email me if you are interested at s601charlie@yahoo(DOT)com replace the (DOT) with an actual (.)
