I have a 99 Aurora that I bought from a friend cheap. I have most of the issues figured out, but one I have had no luck with is the courtesy lights. When I first got the car they did not work, and I replaced the fuse. It blow right away, so I put a little bigger one in hoping to find the short. All the lights came on, but were very dim. After a while they stopped all together, but the fuse is still good. Spent several hours trying to trace wires, (so many orange wires!) and was able to determine that the wires were good to under the dash. I used a hot jump wire to connect one of the courtesy lights and they all came on brightly, as they should. Unfortunately, they do not go off when the door is shut. Anyone have any insight to this problem? I was thinking about testing the door lock switch for power next.

Have you checked the body to door wiring boot/loom? Broken wires inside are a pretty common issue...
