What's up Aurora fam? It's been a little bit since I've posted. Just picked up an 03 Final 500 from Florida, overall in decent shape (other than some dents and scratches).
It's my first Aurora with the Bose audio system (all the other ones have had the base system). I've listened to the Bose system in other 2G Auroras and I recall it being pretty decently balanced, with pretty solid bass. However, the system in this car is just totally blah. All speakers except one rear door speaker are functional. But the overall sounds gets very mid-range focused as soon as the volume is more than 1/3 cranked. And there is virtually no bass from the rear deck subs.
Anyone else have similar experience? Short of replacing the entire system, what have you done to improve your audio quality with the Bose system? I know that some early 00's GM radios had different calibrations that the dealer could install to change sound preferences - anyone hear of anything for our cars?
I haven't looked at the impedance on the subs yet but if it's anything like the system in the Intrigue, replacements are limited due to limited selection of low impedance 6x9 subs...

Well I love the sound of the BOSE, nice and loud on the Mids and Highs. Just needs more BASSSS! So after installing two 10" Subwoofers with factory BOSE. It's like WOWWW! Badass, the beast woke up. It's been 4 months since and no problems what so ever. Will post pictures later, was waiting for a problem or issues within 4 months test and Excellent "nothing yet"...ππ

That's the downfall on the BOSE, the BASS frequency drops when volume goes up. I guess the Amplifier protects SUBS (rear) from exploding...

i would check the speakers on some of them can be blown. Bose does sounds good . Sometimes speakers can be disconnected and i seen amps being on its way out.

Both deck subs are functional. Just not very loud. I would've thought that they could produce more bass (especially given a similar setup in the Intrigue which is spot on in bass production and overall balance).
Another thing I noticed... When I fade to rear, the front door speakers are still producing low-mids. Is something crossed in the amp or is this normal?
In general, the system is very nonlinear, similar to the base system, where the higher you go, the more it only cranks mids. This is very atypical of GM's Bose setups from this era...maybe it is a radio calibration thing too. I'll have to check with my dealership technician when I get it back home.
Any which way, I feel some upgrades coming in the next few months. I did all speakers in both other Auroras a few years ago and definitely helped the base systems sound OK. But I think the Bose system may be just a little trickier to upgrade right without doing the amp too... Especially given the limited experiences to glean from. Anyone know what the rear door speaker diameter is? And does an aftermarket one require a special basket or adapter? Or do the speakers bolt directly to the door trim like the front doors (which is a really crappy design)?

My aurora with Bose and it sounds good, rear door speakrs sounds good too. If you hear something else its an issue with your specific car. I had 99 intrigue as well with Bose and Aurora sounds better not by a lot but better. In about year rear speakers blow up on my intrigue so had to change them since original speaks from paper .

Yup Rear Speakers are 6.5 (6 1/2) inch and screw up to the plastic grillπ. As far as Stereo it's pretty much foward, I have BOSE & Non BOSE Stereos. Both stereos play the same with a 3 Band EQ(Equalizer). It's all in the BOSE Amplifier. Like I said, I just added two 10" Subwoofers and justice answer back beautifully, I was impressed.

I know what blown speakers sound like (either rattling or nothing)...and the only blown one is the rear drivers side door. Both subs are functional and actually produce some reasonable sound when cranked all the way. But my issue is just that the system is not well balanced or eq'd at all, no matter how I set the eq. Actually sounds really similar to the stock Bose setup in my SS (which is also quite disappointing by the way) .
When I get some time, I think I'm going to do a touchscreen head unit with a decent preamp output. That will at least clean up the signal to the amp and give me a good idea if I need to take another step.
I would like to do new 6x9 subs and an amp for them, but finding decent ones are damn near impossible (especially considering they have to be free air subs if they're sitting in the rear deck). I did find a few 6.5" ones that I could use with an adapter plate but not really confident that the sound will be what I need (want). I've got a sealed 12" in the Impala (along with head unit and all speakers) and I know that will hit harder than any rear deck subs.
