I believe my radiator plastic tank is cracked where the upper hose attaches. Other than this nearly impossible to reach clamp are there any other hurdles to r/r a 2nd gen radiator?

That seems to be the common fail point on Auroras, although mine is a 98, but the same thing has happened to me twice.

Did u get it swapped yet? I remember wrestling with some spacers I think it was. Might have been rust that fell and got in the way of a good fit.
There was something about the fans that I did better when my replacement alternator failed than the first time if I recall also.

There was something about the fans that I did better when my replacement alternator failed than the first time if I recall also. Replacement radiator arrived today. Paul sent me an excerpt from the service manual and it looked fairly straightforward. I started taking it apart. Wow... The directions start with "remove the fans". I wish I could see how. They're directly below the steel upper radiator support and there isn't room to wiggle them out in front of, or behind that support. I stopped so I could go hunting. Anyone have suggestions?

I attacked it with a "take no prisoners" mindset when I got home from work today. I had to remove the entire airbox (+ bellows and MAF sensor) in order to access the radiator hose on the left side. The cruise control box had to be removed in order for the airbox to slide back off the front pin & grommet. I had to remove the upper radiator support, radiator brackets & 2 tie bars in order to create a path for the fan assembly to come out. That gave me room to remove the rad. hose clamps, 2 plastic clamps securing the AC hose to the fan shroud, & lift out the fans. Then the trans lines were disconnected. Remove upper screws and slide the AC condenser up off the lower brackets holding it to the radiator. NOW the radiator can be lifted up and out, wiggling and forcing it this way and that in order to get clearance for the many plastic protrusions from the side tanks.
I'm sure there are worse vehicles out there to work on, but this is the worst one I've ever worked on.

Another issue I ran into: I thought I had read in this forum that replacing the crankshaft sensors is a real knuckle-buster because it's so tight between the engine & radiator...SO...I order a set of sensors to replace while my radiator was out. Couldn't find any sensors to remove. An old diagram I've got shows them in the front of the engine. Are they between the block & exhaust manifold?? (The diagram shows a bare engine block with none of the real-world challenges)
