03 Aurora, V8, 250,000km - I was having intermittent codes for the MAF sensor. I cleaned it, but still got the codes every now and then.
Replaced the MAF, and then over time, I noticed that some shift hesitations that I felt previously in the transmission ( mostly between 3/4 gears ) are now solved...!
So I am just sharing it here - it seems unrelated at first, but thinking it over, it does make sense.

the 4t80e uses maf in calculating shifts

i miss spoke, the 4t80e does not use mAF but you must consider this, your MAF being off most likely caused a lean condition where your engine isnt making optimal power from the mixture and so it accelerates like a dog if its reading off. it could also cause a rich situation in which id bet youd see some smoking or surging.
if the engine isnt running at 100% the shifts cant be smooth because its trying to constantly calculate the best time based on engine running conditions, and if its not consistent it cant be a consistent experience

Right on: I had fault codes for both the MAF and intermittent lean condition on either (or both) cylinder bank. So I thought I had a bad MAF, cracked intake booth (or bad gaskets) and tired transmission. At 245,000km, these things make you consider dropping the car... But it was only the MAF. 40$ and fixed

What was the code listed because I may have the same problem for my Aurora with 256k miles V8 I had a mixture of P0102, P0171, p0174 codes, no discernable pattern as to when they showed. Other than mildly erratic transmission shifts at times, no other symptom.

Ok I’m gonna look to replace that as well if it’s pretty cheap because those same codes are on my car and I’m trying to pass this emissions test

Get a cheap scan tool and look at live data first. Most often MAF data that is bad but has no codes fails and goes good so quickly most tools can’t record the data but it’s worth the 20 dollars to attempt first thing first.
If you idle and it’s say, 8g/l or whatever the unit is and when you increase throttle it consistently moves upward but stops at a random point or bounces around, you would know almost certainly. Also remember an engine can’t correctly run if the maf is working but the engine still has a source of air beyond the sensor. Vacuum leaks, big and small
