check overhead counsel and check R.A.P fuse. unplug them and plug them back. or try full reset unplug the battery for 10 min or more and plug it back in.

Door lights only? Nothing else? The door lights will be activated by theater dimming as a command from the body control module upon removal of a key when turned to off, when interior lights are turned on, when unlock on the rke transmitter is pressed as apart of illuminated entry amd delayed exit lights
They will turn on with the doors open. They will turn off with either a closed door input or when the bcm enters sleep after a power mode of 10 minutes called retained accessory power is complete or after some time as a battery run down protection
Does your car say door ajar when any are open and closed. AND closed being important, you want to see it work with a door open as well as a faulty one when closed. That would tell you completely different things to help steer diagnosis

Are the lights that are currently on running very dim but not on all the way? I noticed this with mine when I went to LED too. There is a small amount of voltage that is always running through the interior light circuit. With your normal incandescent bulbs the voltage isn't enough to turn them on. But with LED, since they require far less voltage to run, they will light up dimly. This is rather annoying. I haven't found a fix for it besides going back to stock bulbs. The good news is, since this voltage was always there anyways you aren't running any more power with them on than you were before with stock bulbs so you don't need to worry about running the battery out. Of course, if this is not the issue then ignore everything I just said haha.

I wanna say this is the issue the interior lights are on but the car started right up which is weird and they are not at their brightest point. Only this is those lights stay on all day all night if I don’t unplug them even when driving they won’t go off.

Of course, if this is not the issue then ignore everything I just said haha. everything you described is an easy way to think of it as LED bulbs in a circuit of many are creating EMI and also accepting too much noise EMI from the BCM light modes and switches and other power circuits as well then, cheap LEDs love to create emi since they have open cheap boards. more expensive LED usually reject low voltage and current because that can killl LEDs they like to work at a specific voltage. They also shield their components better. if you want to fix that issue you can wire in a 194 incandescent and find a place to keep it illuminate. I found that a small ashtray lamp in my park avenue wasn’t enough because it was on the dimming circuit snd I had slll gauges dark because I have HUD. JUST didn’t replace because annoying. One bulb should work. Maybe a resistor and a heat box would be best. or try newer nicer bulbs

My door lights and my drivers side top interior light stays on rather doors are open or closed and whether the car is driving or sitting doesn’t go off does passenger light work or just burnt? I'm jumping in on this convo. I recently bought an 01 4.0. The previous owner pulled the fuse on the interior lights because the overhead console lights wouldn't turn off. Any thoughts? The rest of the interior lights turn on when the doors are open and turn off when the doors close (theater dimming style).

I also have a 2001 4.0. I had the same trouble with the overhead console lights. I got the console down & then disconnected all the leads in it....the lights. the sunroof & the garage door opener. Then I reattached the wires for the lights. They then turned off ok. No problems with the sunroof & the garage door opener not working now, because I have never used them & don't want to.

Any advice on how to take the console down? The service manual says "pull down" to release the retainer clips, but shows an arrow pointing towards the windshield in the diagram. I have trim tools to use, just want to make sure I'm not breaking anything.

All you have to do is pull it down from the back. BUT....I found that it was very difficult to get it back in place.

My console didn't want to come down, but I got it. I unplugged all the electrical connectors. Plugged the map lights back in and now all the interior lights stay on, not just the map lights. Did you remove each wire from the connector, or just unplug the connector and plug it back in?

I unplugged all the connectors & then plugged back in only the connector for the map lights.

I went to a local junkyard and grabbed an overhead console from an Aurora. Plugged it in and the interior lights work as they should. Thanks for the advice. Now on to one of the other nine projects!

Its not a console unless yours has a pocket for a garage door opener or some option i havent seen. its a overhead dome light tho, usually with homelink, sunroof, etc options on rear part. The front part is actually desireable because only aurora in the GM lineup had the switch to do interior (all lamps with doors), off(floor only), on (all lights on at your demand, turn off with RAP)

The service manual calls it an overhead console, but yeah I get what you're saying. It's just the map lights, homelink and sunroof controls.
