I hope it was satisfying for him. Considering the "environmentally friendly" label attached to Tesla ownership & also a lot of that part of Europe, I'm a little surprised to see this. I think in a lot of places, the government would have something to say about detonating that many pounds of lithium batteries. (I'm thinking of phrases like "dangerous toxic cloud.")
If I found myself in this situation and had the where-with-all, I'd like to think I'd have all the guts ripped out, sold or given away, then push the frame/body off of a cliff. The article says the owner is trying to monetize the video. I also just happen to prefer the cliff visual.
Last I heard, the cost of replacement Tesla parts was very high ---and I think that was right at the begining of Covid's spread. I've heard that even Prius batteries are prohibatively expensive to replace, & also that it's not recommended to use "remanned" batteries, because mixing old and new cells results in less battery life out of the pack as a whole.
I live where more coverage by cellular phone companies, insurance companies, healthcare and really emergency services, is considered by corporations/government to be unnecessary luxury. (I wonder sometimes, if they would have put in telephone lines, had it not been for the Great Depression.) 2500 people live here, but it seems like it could be 40-50 years before a public charging station is installed that will allow you to charge two cars in less than several hours. (There are none, now.) We are 68 miles from the State Capitol, so I guess you only need 75 miles of charge. The next town over has two chargers, I hear, but they are 93 miles from the Capitol.
Saying "we all should be driving electric cars by ________," sounds to me like telling us we will commute by jet-pack. (I have to admit, it would be super cool to go by jet-pack.)
Full disclosure: I work for a company that makes automotive lead-acid batteries and does not make lithium or other EV-specific batteries, at this time. (If they ever stop doing lead-acid, I will be suggesting we make jet-packs.)
