Started with the easy cylinder bank. With 250,000km, i'm impressed how clean the valvetrain is. Cam lobes do not look worn out, driving chain is tight, etc.
I was surprised how stiff the water pump pulley was set on its shaft... worried until I found out that the plastic pulley has a metallic center part where you actually pull...

I did them both years ago. Time to do them again unfortunately. The back is difficult but possible. On the Classic, the more stuff you can take off and out of the way, the better off you are.

Yes on classic is lil more room than on 2g by just removing the wiper motor i believe next to the firewall gives a lot more room

That was a very crusty valve cover. Cleaned up, new coilpack, new spark plugs, new gaskets. Will let it soak for a few days then doing the rear bank next week. That's what pandemic holidays are for

Started the second part of the job. It's a bit cramped around the rear valve cover...!

Not having much fun! The cover is off, will be quite a challenge to put it back with a new gasket.

Indeed! I'll try with my miniature camera, if that does not work well, I'll ring my friend. Diff topic - the coilpac on my Aurora for the rear bank was gray, wonder why. The replacement part is black, as it should...
not much leak on the rear bank, except around the passenger side where the camshaft gears are... Notice also that the cam chain was a bit loose, compared to the tension seen on the front bank. 🤷♂️

The original is grey but the replacements always black.

All done. I used the micro-camera to make sure the gasket remained in place while I positionned the valve cover, not the greatest image quality, but enough to see if the gasket is in-place. Went well. New plugs, new coilpack, all runs well. Now time for an oil change.

I checked after driving around, all is good with the valve covers, no oil.
The area surrounding the oilpan is quite another story. I was able to re-torque the bolts 1/4 turn very easily. Hope this will help a bit.
